Sweet Spot by Stella Rhys

Looking for a great romantic comedy? Look no further!
Blurb

Our first meeting as neighbors was screwed from the start.

He was hot. I was naked. And we had no chance in hell at ever being platonic.

I’ll be the first to admit that I live at extremes. After going ten years locked in what felt like a dysfunctional marriage, I’m now decidedly boy-free. In nearly three years I’ve had no boyfriends, no flings, no dates and no sex. For the sake of my dream career, the sacrifice has been easy.

At least it was.

Until Lukas came along.

He’s rude, gorgeous, arrogant – a stone-carved wall of muscle and distraction. He’s everything I know to avoid but there’s no avoiding your next-door neighbor. Oh yeah. The man now lives three steps from me and to make matters worse, he crashed into my life while I was soaked in the tub. Mortifying to say the least and it went something like this: I ran out exposed. He looked. He laughed.

And then I locked myself out.

In short, Lukas Hendricks was smirking, swaggering trouble from the start. And me?

I was – for the first time in years – about to be screwed.

Review

When Lia hears loud crashing and banging from her normally quiet neighbour naturally she stops what’s she’s doing and runs out to check if she’s ok. It’s only when she runs into a ridiculously hot guy in the corridor does she realise she’s dripping wet out of the bath in only a flimsy bathrobe. She could think of better introductions. Turns out her lovely quiet neighbour has left the country and let her player brother live in her place until she returns. You’d think having some eye candy next door would be a good thing. Well it would be if he stopped trying to annoy her and worm his way into her life. Lia has had enough man related drama to last a life time, she doesn’t need Lukas and his player games trying to break her heart any more. But the thing is, Lukas isn’t taking no for an answer. Will Lia be able to resist his charm for long?

I absolutely LOVED THIS! It was funny, packed full of steamy romance and a good dose of drama. I loved Lukas he was the perfect mix of bad boy and romantic, I’d definitely love him as my neighbour! Not to missed, read it now!

Mr Popular by Nicole London

Are you ready for Mr Popular?!
Blurb
Rule #1: Do not vote for Mr. Popular.
Rule #2: Do not talk to Mr. Popular.
Rule #3: (Most importantly, and above all) Do not fall for Mr. Popular…
Liam ‘Mr. Popular’ Carter will always be the closest thing to the “walking plague” in my eyes. His cockiness seeps through his every move, and no matter how many state championships he wins with the basketball team, he will forever be a “loss” to me.
Because he’s my older brother’s best friend, I’m forced to tolerate him, and he’s forced to tolerate me. In fact, unless my brother is around, we happily ignore each other every chance we get.
It wasn’t always this way, though…
Several summers ago, we both attended the same summer camp. A place we returned to year after year. We became friends–close friends, but right when I thought he could possibly turn into my everything, he made it clear that what we had was nothing.
Now that’s he’s a senior, and I only have to deal with him for one more year, I’ve vowed to keep repeating the same set of rules to myself. Especially since he seems so hell-bent on wanting to talk to me for some reason, and especially since he seems to be staring at me every time we’re in the same room together…
Rule #4: Always follow rules #1-3…
Rule #5: (OMG what the hell are you doing?) Do not KISS Mr. Popular…
Review
Oh this book! I loved it! Such a feel good, easy read for my weekend! Romance, a hint of drama and a gorgeous guy all wrapped in one hot package- what’s not to love?!

Liam Carter is Mariah’s worst nightmare and her brother’s best friend. Once he was her everything, her best friend, then after one summer at camp he became public enemy number one. But no matter how hard she tries to hate him, to forget all about him, she just can’t do it. Especially now he’s determined to prove her wrong about him. That they were meant to be more than best friends. Can Liam convince Mariah he isn’t who she thinks he is?

I adored this book. It was so easy to read and I loved the characters – it was a perfect weekend read for me. If you’re after some innocent romance with a hint of drama, comedy and sass this is the one for you!

Valiant by Bella Jewel

Bella’s back! And this one isn’t to be missed!
Blurb
I’ve known fear.
I’ve known pain.
I’ve known horror.
I’ve known all of it.
I’ve guarded myself as best I can.
I’ve hidden myself from him.
I’ve changed my name.
I’ve moved.
But he still haunts me.
One day, I’m sure he’ll find me again.
I don’t trust anybody.
I don’t believe in anybody.
I just want to be free.
Until I meet Jack.
I’m not looking for him, but that’s the thing about heroes.
You’re never looking for them.
He won’t take no for an answer.
He’ll battle past my fear, my pain, and my horror.
He’ll sweep into my life like a hurricane, and it won’t matter how hard I fight.
He’ll break past my walls.
And he’ll change me.
Maybe, he’ll even save me.

Review

It’s no secret that I love Bella Jewel’s books so by now I have a certain level of expectation when I start a new book from her. As always though I was not disappointed at all!

Baylee has suffered a painful past and when she escapes she takes what little she has and the girl she’s come to call her sister, and doesn’t look back. She once thought she was a good judge of character but after what’s happened she can’t trust her judgement ever again, especially when it comes to men. So when Jack tries to seduce her at a bar she can’t accept what he’s offering. She didn’t think she would see him again but when he keeps turning up in her life and doesn’t quit with the flirting she doesn’t know how long she’ll be able to resist him. Will Jack be able to win her over and save her from her past?

I loved the characters in this book! We hear from all of our favourite characters from the previous books and of course there are some new ones who I loved just as much! There’s a lot of laughter, a lot of drama and a lot of emotional moments and I couldn’t get enough of it! A must read!

Millionaire Baller Baby by Rie Warren

Love a sports romance? This is the one for you!
Blurb
She’s NFL royalty. He’s the star quarterback of a tanking team. When she takes ownership, balls will roll . . . and the truth will out.

Rafe Macintyre—the rocket-armed Carolina Crush quarterback—has nothing to lose and everything to prove. All because of one woman . . . Miss Peyton Fox. When the tough-as-nails chick takes over as team owner, Rafe is ready to turn the epic-fail season into a Super Bowl championship. But the winning has to start with Peyton’s love.

No stranger to playas on and off the field, Peyton Fox is born and bred NFL royalty. Been there, done him, and called the plays even before she took up the Carolina Crush crown. She has zero time for a love life and even less time for games unless they happen between the endzones. Unfortunately, Rafe Macintyre has one hell of an arm, and he’s full of hot southern charm. He’s not too bad to drool over either, but it’s been five years since she tangled with him—a mistake she doesn’t plan on repeating.

The consequences of one night of rebellion will last a lifetime. It’s all fun and games until someone gets knocked up.

Review
I’ve been reading a lot of sports romances lately and I really enjoyed this one! When Peytons father passes away she becomes the the team owner of  Carolina Crush. She’s passionate about the team but there’s one person she’s dreading to see again – Rafe Macintyre, the star quarterback. When he was first drafted Rafe celebrated by seducing Peyton into his bed then forgetting all about it the next day. Little did he know that that night would change their lives forever. Peyton is keeping secrets and Rafe isn’t letting her go – will they find their HEA? I really enjoyed this book purely because of the way Peyton and Rafe interacted – it was brilliant! Some of the stuff Peyton came out with was hilarious. Yes it’s very obvious what Peytons secret is and where the book is going (I mean the title says it all) but I still loved this book regardless of knowing what would happen. Great, easy read with a hot quarterback – what more could you want?

I led Peyton upstairs after grabbing her bag, our hands brushing together sending that same hot sizzle coursing through my body.

“You can shower up in here.” I guided her into my room, giving it a quick once over.

I’d changed the sheets, made the bed, tidied the fuck up . . .

Dammit. I’d missed a pair of briefs on the floor.

Swiftly kicking them under the bed while Peyton inspected the ocean view outside the tall windows, I said, “Bathroom’s through that door. I put out fresh towels for you.”

And dammmn, Peyton looked good in my bedroom when she spun to face me. “This is your room?”

Mmm.” My gaze lingered on her body and that goddamn bikini-thing.

“What about you?” she asked, strolling closer.

“Are you inviting me to join you in the shower?” Because if so I was in danger of shredding my shorts with my rapidly hardening cock.

“Maybe.” She blushed deliciously.

Drawing her straight against me, I brushed a light kiss over her smooth, slightly salty lips. “Trust me, darlin’. If my mom and Liv weren’t here I’d have us both stripped down and you soaking wet in ten seconds flat.”

Her fingertips made small circles through the black hair on my chest, and I cursed quietly. “Who says you haven’t already made me wet?”

I barely refrained from mauling her. She had to feel the solid bar of my cock hot and throbbing and pressing against her belly.

“I’d love to find out.” My palms skimmed to her hips, but she pulled back an inch.

Her cheeks flushed even more. “I suppose this happens a lot.”

“What?”

Her bare feet overlapping, she shrugged. “Having women over. And I don’t mean your mom and Liv.”

I tilted her chin beneath my knuckles, lifting her eyes to mine. “Peyton Fox, you’re the first woman who’s ever been in this bedroom. I swear.”

She whimpered once then I crushed her against me. The floodgates opened and our lips slid together. She gripped the back of my neck. I hauled her up and wrapped her legs around my waist. Our hot tongues tangled, tasted. And I was so close to slamming her against the wall. Her grinding hips were making me crazy.

When she started nibbling my neck with her soft moist mouth I had to break away before I ripped her suit off and tackled her to the floor.

Fuck me. Her nipples were making peaks in the material of that sexy blue suit, so hard I could think of nothing but sucking them.

“Rafe.”

Huh?”

“You’re staring at my boobs.”

I stared some more. Mighta drooled, too. “Because I want them in my mouth.”

When she started untying the string behind her neck, I pivoted away. “Fuck. Don’t test me, Pey.”

I heard the wet slap of her suit hitting the floor, and it took the last shred of my willpower to keep my eyes glued straight ahead. Struggling to breathe deeply enough for air to actually inflate my lungs, I stood like a wooden soldier. A very stiff wooden soldier.

And when I felt her bare tits—warm from the sun—brush against my back, I jerked forward as if burned.

“Now I gotta go cool down before I do something everyone will hear.” I rushed out of the room, her smoky laughter following me all the way.

Hurrying downstairs, I stripped off and dove into the outside shower, hitting that shit on straight-up ice cold. No joy. Even the icy prickles of water couldn’t deflate my cock.

For Finley by J. Nathan

A sports romance not to be missed!!
Blurb
Finlay Thatcher is a lost soul, guilt-ridden after the death of her twin brother. When Alabama’s football coach gives her the opportunity to work for him, she knows it’s her chance to move on, even if it means living her brother’s dream.

Caden Brooks is Alabama’s star quarterback. He’s got it all. The attention of adoring fans. A girlfriend who’d do anything to hold on to him. And a future in the pros. He’s getting along just fine until Finlay steps into his life, despising him at first sight and pushing his buttons like no other.

Unfortunately for Finlay, and her attempt to keep Caden at arm’s length, there’s nothing Caden loves more than a challenge. The problem with this challenge is she comes with a secret that has the power to destroy everything.

Review
This was my first book by J. Nathan and I was so impressed! I love sports romances and this one was a great twist on the classic football romance. When Finlay is invited to help her brother’s football coach she can’t say no. After the tragic death of her twin and the guilt that she carries with her, she takes the job to honour his memory – to live the dream that he no longer can. She’d love her new job if it wasn’t for one person – Caden Brooks. The star quarterback who took the position her brother once held. The star quarterback that she couldn’t loathe anymore if she tried. Arrogant, full of himself and so damn confident she just wants him to leave her alone but she didn’t count on how determined Caden can be when he puts his mind to it.

Finlay is the first girl to not worship the ground Caden walks on in…well, ever. She’s intrigued him and he can’t stay away. The more she pushes him away, the more he pushes back. She may hate him but even she can’t deny the attraction between them. Will the two of them be able to move on from the past?

Loved this story! It was witty, packed with emotion and a whole lot of sass! Finlay and Caden were both great characters, and I really enjoyed reading their conversations! Highly recommended!

“You’re awfully quiet this morning.”

My eyes cut to Brooks. His ear buds dangled over his shoulders. I tugged mine out. “Huh?”

“Just wondering what pearls of wisdom you’re gonna bestow upon me today.”

“You need to stop hesitating when you drop back,” I told him, much to his obvious surprise. “Either do it or don’t. Did you see how those guys pummeled you?”

“See it? I was under it.”

“Yeah, well, your offensive line sucks. But you can’t give the defense a chance to get to you. Know where you’re throwing and hit the mark. Your receivers are good. They’ll get there.”

He stared at me, his eyes narrowed slits.

I wiped my face with the small towel I’d draped over the treadmill screen. “Don’t worry, you’ve got potential.”

He laughed disbelievingly. “Potential? I’m the starting quarterback for Alabama.”

Those words—especially leaving his mouth—cut deep. The only reason he was playing was because Cole wasn’t.

“I’ve got more than potential,” he assured me.

“Yeah. You’ve got a massive ego ready to destroy small countries,” I said, my words clipped as I remembered why I despised him so much.

“All great athletes have egos. You’ve got to.”

Wow. My hatred toward him was growing by the second. “And you’re humble.”

He laughed. Didn’t he notice I wasn’t laughing? I hoped to God he didn’t think I was flirting. This was as far from flirting as one could get.

We ran in silence, the pounding of our sneakers on the treadmills mirroring the pounding in my head brought on by his arrogance.

“What’s your deal anyway?”

I glanced over at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Not many girls know so much about football and wake up at four in the morning to run.”

I scoffed. “Hope you’re not implying I thought you’d be here.”

“I didn’t say that.”

“But you were thinking it.”

He smirked. “You’d be amazed at the lengths girls go to get my attention.”

My eyes flared. “I suppose you think I took some crash course in football, too, just to impress you with all my knowledge.”

“Just saying.”

My face scrunched as I pressed the arrow on the screen to quicken my pace. “Keep dreaming, superstar.”

“Girls have done some whacked out shit.”

My eyes jumped between the wall in front of me and Brooks. “First of all, I’m not about to steal your towel because it has your sweat on it, nor will I be swiping your jockstrap to sell online. We, my friend, are victims of bad timing.”

“Bad timing?”

“Yeah. Anytime you’re in my space, it’s bad,” I assured him.

REVIEW

I really enjoyed this book however I just wish it was longer! When Paige moves into a new place she wasn’t planing on spending the early hours of the morning listening to her neighbour get it on every night. Having had enough she’s determined to confront him, she just wasn’t counting on her reaction to him. Unabashedly honest, dirty and hot as hell she can’t seem to resist him. Are their thin walls a blessing or a curse?

I thought this story had so much potential. I loved these characters and their personalities, and I thought the storyline was really good but just as I was getting into it it ended. I would really love to read more from these two. So all in all a shorty but a goody! If you want a hot, insta-love story to keep you busy for little while this is just the thing!

synopsis

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00027]

My name is Brooke Barker…

And I’m a freaking disaster.

No, seriously. I’m a college drop-out working a dead-end job, my best friend Carly’s dog gets more action than I do, and I have more bad dates in my diary than there are movie remakes.

Not to mention I’m completely and utterly in love with Cain Elliott.

The problem? He’s in a relationship. With a girl who’s so plastic she makes Barbie cry herself to sleep with jealousy.

The second problem? He’s my best friend.

My shut-up-and-put-harry-potter, yes-this-is-your-shirt, help-I-have-no-power, crap-I’m-out-of-tampon, kinda best friend.

And that’s all he can be, right?

Right.

Being Brooke is a standalone romantic comedy. Hilarious, super-sexy, and possibly highly inappropriate at times, this is the perfect feel-good read!

review

I was so excited to start this book and it really didn’t disappoint. Brooke is just fabulous – I love everything about her, the way she thinks, the things she says, just  everything! Brooke is utterly hilarious and I really enjoyed reading her story. I must have laughed out loud a million different times whilst reading this (I got a few weird looks on the train with this!) Brooke has been in love with her best friend Cain for years but he has never felt the same. Their friends and family all know about her feelings and have told her that one day he’ll wake up and realise but after his numerous girlfriends it doesn’t look like he’s going to wake up anytime soon. Especially now he’s dating  Miss fake and whiny – or public enemy number one as far as Brooke is concerned. Brooke knows he’s making a big mistake dating that girl, can she convince him that maybe they’re meant to be more than just best friends? This has be one of the best books of the year purely because it was just so funny, if this doesn’t put a smile on your face then, well, there’s something wrong with you. Trust me when I say you need this in your life – read it now!

EXCERPT

Cain’s phone begins to buzz on the table. The screen lights up, and the short name on the screen makes me have to fight a frown.

I know it’s Nina. It always is. It’s like she has a Brooke-dar. She can sense whenever Cain and I are alone and hanging out.

My heart sinks, slowly but heavily, and I school my expression into one of not caring. I refuse to look away from the TV now.

Cain hands me his pizza box, which I take, begrudgingly, then he leans forward and grabs his phone. He waits for the buzzing to stop, then unlocks it and turns it off vibrate.

Then? Then he shoves it under the table, screen down.

Ho. Lee. Shit.

I gape at him. I can’t help it.

A piece of pepperoni drops off the slice of pizza in my hand—the same one that’s frozen halfway to my mouth as I stare at him in total disbelief. Did he really just do it?

“What?” Cain shrugs and takes his box back, grabbing a piece of half-eaten, meaty pizza and shoving the end in his mouth. The crust crunches as he bites down.

I swallow and glance at the coffee table. “I don’t think you’ve ever not taken a call from her.” I can’t help the derogatory way I say ’her’. It’s not intentional—honest. It’s ingrained in me to be vicious to other women. I think it’s a female thing. Self-preservation and all that.

“I don’t think I ever haven’t either.” Cain tilts his head to the side and meets my gaze, a suspicious glint in his green eyes. “But the point is, we haven’t done this in weeks, and I’m having too much fun to leave. Besides, we have all this junk food. If I don’t help you eat it, you’ll eat it all, then it’ll be my fault when your pants don’t fit.”

Oh my god.

“Does she know you’re here?” I smirk slyly and raise my eyebrows.

He shifts uncomfortably. With a cough, he puts his pizza down and grabs his beer bottle to swig from it.

Oh. My. Shitty. Life.

“She doesn’t, does she?” I sit up straight, throwing my half-slice back into my box and shoving his shoulder. “Cain!”

“No,” he mumbles, scratching the back of his ear. “She doesn’t know.”

I laugh. I can’t help it. It’s totally immature of me to delight in the fact he hasn’t told the Prissy Princess where is he and he’s ignoring her calls, but I do. It’s hilarious.

And, okay. I’m smug. Totally smug. There’s only one reason he hasn’t told her, and that’s because she hates me too.

Bitchy Best Friend Mission: Level Up!

“And tell me.” I snicker, just about holding back the volcano of laughter threatening to erupt. “Where does Nina think you are?”

“She thinks I’m at Mom’s.” He looks at me, his lips flattening into a thin line. “Stop laughing, B. No, don’t shake your damn head. I fucking mean it. She’s a little insecure over my friendship with you and Carly, that’s all. Sometimes it’s easier to just tell a… little white lie.”

“A little white lie? She thinks you’re at your mom’s!” I laugh harder and wipe at my eyes because they feel a little too wet.

“I just want the best of both worlds right now, all right?”

“What is the best of both worlds? Pizza with me and blow jobs from her?”

“She chooses not to eat gluten. Until she finds a gluten-free recipe she likes, I can’t eat pizza when she’s around.”

Which is a lot.

I raise my eyebrows again. “Your girlfriend won’t eat gluten but she’ll happily put your dick in her mouth?”

“Brooke. Don’t be a bitch.” He chucks a piece of chicken from his pizza at me, his eyes narrowing.

I’m dying. I think this is it—this is how I die, laughing at Cain’s lame excuses for lying to his girlfriend about spending time with me.

“Oh my fuck. This is hilarious. Seriously. Someone call Comedy Central.”

“Brooke.” He says my name again, this time quieter.

I stop laughing. Just about.

“I’m sorry. I just think it’s funny. You want me to be nice to her but you lie to her about spending time with me.” I shrug a shoulder and peel a piece of pepperoni off my pizza. I’m not even that hungry anymore.

He sighs, putting the top down on his box, and sits back. “She thinks there’s something going on between us.”

I laugh even harder because I might cry if I don’t.

Hi, breaking heart. Grab the tissues, yo.

There’s an awkward silence hanging between us now. It’s not the first time someone has thought that, but given that the more time I spend with Cain, the more I seem to fall for him, it’s awkward. Especially since he’s lying to her just to hang out with me.

I clear my throat and look up at him. “That’s ridiculous. You’re my best friend. Like anything would ever happen between us. I can’t put up with your shit taste in music, for a start.”

“Exactly,” he replies in a quieter voice, scratching behind his ear again. “It’s fucking stupid. I can’t stand your taste in music either. Who the fuck likes Justin Bieber?”

“People who think Kanye West should retire.”

Completely and utterly loved this book! I thought all of the characters in the book especially Sydney and Brian were brilliant and I particularly enjoyed the conversations the two of them shared! The twists and turns as well as the romance had me hooked until the end and I seriously cannot wait until the next book in the series!

Laurel Young needs a plan, and fast. After her reality TV boss has a major meltdown, not-so-fun employment seems inevitable–unless she can pitch the idea of a lifetime. When she sees Flint McKay’s audition tape – flannelled, handsome as hell, and building a house with his own two hands – she knows she’s found her secret weapon. The women of America are going to love him, especially if she can convince him to try building without the flannel shirt.Only problem is, Flint didn’t make that tape – and he has zero interest in trading the wilds of Western Massachusetts for the bright lights of Hollywood. But Laurel isn’t the kind of girl to take no for an answer. Soon, she’s knee-deep in rustic charm, and getting plenty of hands-on experience. And it turns out, this city girl and country guy may have a few things in common after all, like crazy hot chemistry, a wild side, and a weakness for good whiskey…

But can their behind-the-scenes connection last once the world falls in love with Flint? And will this be the big break both of them need- or leave them in the dirt?

Find out in Lila Monroe’s fun, sexy new novel!

*This is a stand-alone novel with HEA. No cliff-hangers!*

Review
Laurel has always wanted to make it as a producer but surrounded by sexist pigs who only want to produce shows with lots of boobs and scandal she’s having a hard time of convincing anyone to take her seriously. When the channel’s hit show gets cancelled Laurel is given the chance of a lifetime – come up with a new hit show to fill the spot and she can produce it. The catch? She only has one week to think of something.

Stuck in the office watching audition tapes until the early hours, she’s about to give up when the hottest man she has ever seen fills her screen telling her how to build a house. If she could spend hours watching him build then so could every other woman out there – and they could learn some DIY skills at the same time! He was perfect. If only he would answer her calls.

Never one to admit defeat she hops on a plane and hunts him down. But when she finds him she wasn’t expecting him to want nothing to do with it. Her career depends on him and this show. Nothing is going to stop her getting her way, even Flint and his charms. Can she convince him to do the show and manage to keep her hands off of him long enough to film it?

I loved loved LOVED this book! It was funny, sexy and an amazing read. I really loved Laurel and Flint…ok, especially Flint! This book is definitely not one to be missed!

Some Sort of Love by Melanie Harlow

Check out the today’s hot new release!

Blurb

On the surface, I have it all—a career I adore, a loving family, the Nixon metabolism but not the Nixon ears, and a salary that supports my lavish taste in designer shoes, fine wine, and lacy lingerie…but I have no one to share it with.Until the day I run into him—my one night stand from college with the cocky smile, let’s-get-out-of-here eyes, and dirty, dirty mouth.

Levi Brooks is six feet four inches of hot bearded fantasy. A sexy single dad with broad shoulders, strong hands, and a fantastically big…heart. (I mean, it’s massive. And generous. And it pumps so hard… um. Sorry. Lost my place.)

But he lives for his son, and he’s keeping me at a distance because he thinks I deserve someone better—a man who can give me more time, more attention, more of himself. He doesn’t believe he could ever be enough.

But he’s wrong.

He’s everything.

Review

Oh my goodness the feels! I have so much love for this book!!  When Jillian attends her sister’s wedding she knew it would require a couple of drinks. With every family member there asking her when she’s going to find Mr Right, there was no way she could have survived without one. The last thing she expected was to bump into Levi Brooks. The last time she saw him they were locked in a closet doing a bit more than just talking.

She’s spent years thinking about him and now he’s back in her life she isn’t going to let him go without re-living the amazing night they spent together all those years ago. Soon their feelings become so much more than lust but Levi is still holding himself back. Being a single father he’s used to it just being him and his son. With some wounds that have never healed, he can’t seem to move forward with Jillian no matter how much he loves her. But there’s only so long Jillian can put up with his excuses, will he be able to move on and let her in?

I loved every single second of this book! I really loved Jillian and Levi and their romance, drama and all the emotions they made me feel! This book is a standalone but you do get a glimpse of characters from the previous books so I would definitely recommend reading all of this brilliant series!

Excerpt

“So.” I glanced out the windows to the patio. “You want to go back out there?”“Not really,” she said.

“You want to get out of here?”

She grinned. “Yeah. I do.”

I watched her rush up the stairs to get her things, and as soon as she was out of sight, I adjusted myself in my pants. My dick had jumped to life the second she said yeah, I do, as if the question had been you want to get naked and fuck? rather than something much less suggestive. Not that I didn’t want to get naked and fuck—hopefully I’d last a little longer than I had in the broom closet eleven years ago—but I didn’t want to make her feel like that’s what I expected. She wasn’t a horny nineteen-year-old college student anymore; she was a doctor, for fuck’s sake. She was beautiful and smart and mature and sophisticated, and a woman like her did not want some Neanderthal who probably needed a haircut and a new pair of shoes to throw her up against a wall for a five-minute fuck.

A woman like that deserved attention all night long. She deserved someone who would undress her slowly and delight in each new inch of her skin as it was revealed. Someone who would run his hands all over her body and find out where she liked to be touched, how she liked to be touched, what she wanted to hear whispered to her in the dark. Someone who would wrap those gloriously long legs around his neck and use his tongue until she begged for his cock, then use his cock until she begged for mercy.

Fuck. I could be that guy.

Except I couldn’t be. Not tonight. Because I wasn’t a horny college student anymore either—I was just a horny single dad who didn’t have the luxury of taking a woman home and lavishing all my time and attention on her the way I wanted to.

As soon as I had the thought, I felt guilty. Scotty was the love of my life and always would be, and whenever I felt the slightest bit resentful about something I couldn’t do because of him, that resentment was immediately crushed by shame. He didn’t ask to be born wired differently, into a terrible relationship, to a mother who would decide she couldn’t handle being a parent, to a father who wasn’t prepared for any of it. He was completely innocent, and he needed me to be a better man.

Running a hand through my hair, I exhaled and wondered if I should ask Jillian for a raincheck on a night when Scotty’s usual sitter could be there. If he woke up again and I wasn’t home yet, he might never get back to sleep. We’d be up all night, tomorrow would be miserable, and the whole start to the week would be off.

But she was so beautiful. And I hadn’t been this attracted to someone in so long.

“Fuck,” I muttered, checking my watch. What was the right thing to do? If she were a different sort of woman, if her brother-in-law weren’t my friend and client, if we lived three states apart…if any number of circumstances were changed, I’d grab her hand, drag her out to my car, and spend the next thirty minutes fucking her brains out in the back seat. It would feel so good to take control that way, to lose control that way, to release some of this fucking tension. But was that fair to her?

My phone buzzed in my pocket.

“Hello?”

“He’s up again.” Monica’s voice was strained, and in the background I heard the familiar keening of a nighttime meltdown. My chest hurt, the way it always did when Scotty was upset.

“Shit. OK, I’m on my way. Twenty minutes, OK? Thirty at the most.”

“OK.”

“Tell him he can play on his iPad.”

“That’ll just rile him up more. He’s tired. He needs to go to sleep.”

I clenched my fist. “Just do it, OK? It will help calm him until I get there.”

As I ended the call, I heard footsteps above, and then Jillian appeared at the top of the stairs carrying a small suitcase. I watched her descend, the tightness in my chest growing. Also the tightness in my pants. “Hey.”

“Hey,” she said, her face concerned as she reached the ground and saw my expression. She set down the suitcase. “What’s up?”

Sighing, I put my phone back in my pocket. “I have to get home. Scotty woke up and he’s upset.”

“Oh.” She tried to hide it, but I saw the disappointment in her eyes.

“I’m really sorry. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

“That’s OK. I understand.”

“Can I call you?”

“Of course.” She smiled, and her lips looked so soft and inviting, I took a step closer.

If you kiss her, it will be that much harder to leave.

I knew it was the truth, but I couldn’t help myself. One kiss. Just one. And then I’ll go. I moved even closer and took her head in my hands.

The curve of her smile deepened. “What are you doing?”

“I’m thinking about kissing you.”

“Stop thinking.”

I lowered my lips to hers and let them rest there, fully intending the kiss to be short and sweet, just a goodnight.

But I couldn’t break it off. I wanted more—I wanted to taste her. Slanting my head, I changed the angle of the kiss, teasing her mouth open with mine, slipping my tongue between her lips. A little sigh escaped her, and my dick jumped to life again.

You have to go, you have to go, you have to go.

But her hands were moving up my chest and my fingers were sliding into her soft brown hair and I could smell something sweet and citrusy on her skin and it mingled with the taste of whiskey on my tongue and oh God, I wanted my tongue everywhere on her body. I wanted make her come with it just so I could hear that little sigh again and again and again. And I wanted to feel my hands in her hair just like this while she got on her knees and took my cock between her lips, looking up at me with those big blue eyes…

Groaning, I forced myself to take my lips off her before I completely lost my senses. “God, I wish I could stay,” I said, resting my forehead against hers. “I wish a lot of things.”

“I know.” She played with my tie again. “I wish I was taking this tie off you, not straightening it.”

“What a coincidence, that’s one of my wishes too.”

She laughed and kissed me quickly. “Another time, maybe. You better go.”
