War by Isabel Lucero

This book is one suspense-filled thrill ride after another! Intense and action packed this is a romance story with a difference! If you’re a fan of MC novels then this is just perfect for you!

Synopsis

My father was the leader of a protection racket; a criminal group that uses violence to ensure our clients won’t be harmed or robbed, and that their businesses will remain protected. What we do isn’t legal, but it’s the way we’ve lived for many years now.

Memphis Reed—my father—was formidable. He was a man people both respected and feared. He taught me everything he knew, and when he died I was left in charge.

Before his death, a battle was brewing on the streets. Lies were told, deceptions were made, and people were killed. People we thought we knew changed, relationships and friendships were torn apart, and loyalties were questioned. After his death, a full on war is raging, and Roman Rios—a man we now know we can’t trust—wants to move in on our business.

With me now being the leader of nine men, it’s up to me to protect them from Roman and his own crew of ruthless criminals. I’ll do whatever’s necessary to keep my business my own and protect everything my father worked for. Even if I have to go up against Xavier Delgado. Roman’s number two. A man with no heart and a black soul. A man Roman trained to be as vicious and cold-blooded as he is. A man who once upon a time I thought I was in love with.

Yes, I’m a she. My name is Chevelley Reed, and all’s fair in love and war.

Review

Wow! This book is one intense, thrill ride of drama, suspense and a whole lot of lust! This is my first book by Isabel Lucero but I doubt it’ll be my last now!

Chevelley is the daughter of Memphis Reed the big boss of a feared illegal group who protect their client’s and their businesses by any means possible. When Memphis goes missing and is presumed dead Chevelley takes his place. The only woman amongst a group of big intimidating guys she’s worked hard to earn their respect and considers them all her brothers.

Before his death events were unfolding that would change the course of all of their lives. There were lies and betrayals which left them reeling. And at the heart of it all? Roman Rios.

Roman is a very dangerous man – if you want to stay alive you learn to never trust nor betray him. Chevelley has managed to keep her business and boys away from him…until now. With Roman determined to steal her business, a war is brewing and it’s Chevelley’s job to keep her boys safe. But there’s one problem.

Xavier Delgado.

Once upon a time Xavier meant everything to her, she loved him unconditionally and couldn’t have been happier. But after his father’s death, he changed. He pushed her away and betrayed her in the worst possible way – he joined Roman’s crew.

Now Roman’s number 2, Xavier has done terrible things and Chevelley can barely recognise him anymore. When war breaks out between their crews, Chevelley knows that they will undoubtedly come face to face. But will she be able to protect her crew and do what ever it takes to win this war – even if it means killing Xavier? Or will old feelings creep to the surface and get in the way?

Shots are fired, blood is spilt and lives are lost, but at the end of it all, is everything truly what it seems?

War is an absolutely epic read. Fast-paced, full of suspense and unbelievably hot, I was held mesmerised by this book from start to finish. If you’re a fan of MC novels then this is definitely right up your street. I loved that Chevelley was the big boss – normally in this time of book the heroine is the boss’ daughter but here Chelle is definitely the one calling the shots and it’s brilliant! As for her and Xavier? Boy those two have crazy chemistry! Trust me when I say their story will captivate you in every way and Xavier will undoubtedly be added to your alpha male book boyfriend shelf!

Suspense. Lust. Betrayal. Lies & Passion – War has them all in spades. An intense, epic read with unbelievable twists which will leave you begging for more – definitely one not to be missed!

Review

At the end of the last book we were all left in suspenders ( *cough* sorry English humour 😉 ), I mean suspense, as Katia finally found out the truth about her marriage with Marcus and Marcus had finally, FINALLY, realised he was in love with her but instead of apologising and telling her this he pushes her away thinking she’ll be better off without him! What?! WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!! Oh yes that’s right he wasn’t!! Because as soon as we pick up volume two Marcus is wallowing in his self hatred at what a bloody idiot he was and desperately trying to find her to get her back. There really were several times in this book where I was either screaming in frustration or just wanting to thump their heads together!!

The first part of the book brings us up to speed from the moment Katia walks out right up to 2 years later. Katia has moved states and moved herself and her mother into, well, a shit-hole and is working her butt off to support them. Not only does she have her mother to worry about but also  something else that’s followed her and is a constant reminder of Marcus. When she can no longer cope she calls her Father to help with her Mum and he convinces her its time to go back and find her closure by divorcing Marcus.

But of course nothing is that easy is it?

She stays with her brother Ford and along with her other brothers and best friends she fights for the closure she desperately needs but deep down beneath the hatred and betrayal she’s still in love with him and when the passion runs high there’s no denying her feelings.
This has to be the perfect ending to Marcus and Katia’s story. It really is a roller-coaster ride of emotions with a hell of a lot of downs but in the end Bella gives us our HEA. Their path to happiness is paved with anger, hatred, betrayal, pain, anguish and demons – and when tragedy strikes Katia becomes the monster she’s always believed Marcus to be. But at the end of it all does love really conquer all?

There’s a lot of controversy over Katia’s actions at the beginning of the book, about the things she kept form Marcus (which I won’t spoil for you don’t worry) but though I may not 100% agree I think it’s difficult to judge unless you’ve been in that position yourself, and after the amount of pain Marcus caused her I can understand her reasoning. The craziness at the end though I did think was a bit insane on her part!

I screamed, cried, and sat on tenterhooks throughout this last instalment and though it finished far too soon I don’t think I would have handled the suspense much longer! The perfect ending to a brilliant 2-part series.

When I say Bella could write just about anything and I’d love it I’m being deadly serious – I’m pretty sure she’d make my shopping list sound better! As soon as I see a new release I’m all over it before I’ve even read the blurb because I just know it’s going to be fabulous! This story is jam-packed full of emotion and hits you like a tonne of bricks (…in a good way) – if anything is going to give you an emotional hangover its this one! Marcus may be a dick at the beginning but he’ll be up there with your other book boyfriends by the end of it!

Anguish, Betrayal and Passion. Three things this book has in spades. Add to your TBR list and ONE-Click now – this steamy tale is not one to be missed!

Genre: Dark contemporary romance

Release date: 30th December 2014

BLURB

RazeTo take back life, one must first face death…

One man stripped of his freedom, his morals…his life.

Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.

After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge…bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.

Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into this: a rage-fueled killing machine. A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals…her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Triad’ bosses of New York’s Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafia boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better; the Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside…then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget…for both their sakes.

But when weeks later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man…this man they call Raze.

Review

For once in my life I am speechless. Stunned. Lost. After finishing this book I thought, what am I meant to do now? How can you go back to normal after finishing that?! I don’t think I truly understood the concept of a book hangover until RAZE, to be so hung up on a story, on a bunch of characters, that thinking about anything else, doing anything else, seems like an impossibility. The depth of emotion in this book left me reeling. I can safely say that this book is one of, if not the, best book I’ve ever read – if you don’t go and buy it now I may have you committed….no really, I will.

Kisa is the daughter of New York’s Russian Bratva boss, Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, the head of the infamous ‘Triad’ of bosses. She is protected, hidden and controlled – her every move is watched, her clothes, actions and words are chosen for her, nothing is her own. Growing up she had the other Bratva boss children – her brother Rodion, Alik, Luka and his sister Talia but then everything changed.

Luka was born with brown eyes but in one there was a smudge of blue – the exact shade of blue of Kisa’s eyes. Their mothers declared it was a sign they were meant for each other – that their souls matched. They were inseparable and even at a young age Kisa new there would never be anyone else for her.

But in a tragic event she lost both her brother and Luka leaving her with only his sister and Alik. Alik had always had his sights set on her but he’s disturbed, insane, his love for her was a need, a hunger; he needed her to calm the demons inside. From the moment after Luka’s death Alik claimed Kisa as his own and has controlled her every move ever since.

Kisa must learn to be the perfect Bratva wife – never speaking out of turn, doing as her husband says and volunteering at church to redeem their families’ sins. Having been engaged to Alik for two years now she knows that when they finally do get married it will only get worse. His abuse, anger and rage are something she’s come to deal with but as they still live in different houses until they’re married she has yet to endure it 24/7.

The Bratva run an underground gambling ring called The Dungeon, a cage where men fight to the death all in the name of money and family honour. Alik is the undefeated champion, choosing to feed his bloodlust by butchering his opponents. Kisa helps to manage the ring and even approves of Alik’s participation – if he lets out his rage in the ring then maybe her treatment will be better.

Enter Raze. Taken as a young boy he remembers nothing about his past. Kept in a dungeon, abused, drugged & beaten, he is kept locked away with other boys like him and forced to fight to the death with one another in a cage. Drugged to make them forget themselves and to fuel their eternal bloodlust, he only knows himself as fighter 818 – no name, just a number – though the guards call him raze as he would “raze any fucker that got in my way”. When he was first taken one of the other boys warned him he would forget himself and if he had any hope of staying alive then he should write his revenge on his cell’s wall – write the name of the person who put him in there, write down the reasons for him to keep going, so that one day he can have his revenge.

As one of the best fighters they have he’s survived the ring for over a decade until one day a riot breaks out and he manages to escape. So he did the only thing he could remember – go seek his revenge. Making his way to Brooklyn he begs for money on the street to earn the funds he needs and its here that he meets Kisa whilst she’s out with the church food van.

But what they don’t know is that their paths will cross a lot more than just the few meal times they share, for his revenge not only leads him back to Kisa but also to the Dungeon as he becomes they’re newest fighter. Drawn to him in ways she knows she shouldn’t Kisa watches him in the gym, stealing glances when she knows Alik is gone.

But the problem is Raze looks back at her too and if things continue Alik is sure to notice and punish Kisa for her wrongs, or worse kill her. The longer Raze is away from his prison, from the drugs, the more he starts to remember and there’s something about Kisa that he is drawn to, that helps to ease his pain.

Will Raze finally have his revenge and remember where he comes from? Is he the answer to all of Kisa’s prayers – will she ever be free of Alik’s control? Or will they be able to save each other?

If I could marry this book I’m pretty sure I would. It has something for everyone – romance, drama, violence, pain, heartbreak, joy….dear Lord there are just too many FEELS! My heart pounded for the majority of this book and I’m pretty sure my mouth was gaping open for most of it too. This book definitely needs a warning: booze, chocolate, tissues and panties are all an essential requirement for this book, mostly because of all of the feels but also because Oh. Holy. Yum. Raze is just delicious!! Can I keep him? Please!!! If you don’t go and buy this book right now there is clearly something wrong with you!

Guns firing.

Crashes.

Screaming.

Gunshot after gunshot and the tumult of shouting pounded through the stone ceiling as I paced the small area of my dank cell. Above me was a stampede, the thunder of hundreds of feet; prisoners were on the loose. And here I was trapped in this fucking cell!

I need to get out. I must get out! I screamed inside my head as I ran my hand over the metal bars keeping me trapped inside.

Charging the door of my cell, my right shoulder slammed into the metal. It didn’t even shake. Wrapping my hands tightly around the bars over the “window,” I scanned the dimly lit hallway, its flickering dull bulbs swinging back and forth from all the heavy movement upstairs. This level of the prison, the Gulag as it was known amongst the inmates, was reserved for us champions, the most prized of the death fighters. The fucking killers, the murderers, the monsters they’d created to want nothing but to feel rage and spill blood. We were jailed in the bowels of this shithole, no chance of escape. Our cells were too far apart to ever see another fighter except when we were training.

My breathing became ragged. Bellowing in frustration, I pulled on the steel bars, my arm joints creaking with the enormous pressure I put them under. My bulging, drug-created muscles corded with the effort. I roared out a final yell when they refused to budge.

The shot they’d just given me was making my skin crawl and was evoking the need to fight. I was scheduled to fight later tonight. I felt rage, nothing but rage.

I needed to kill. It was the only way to stop the rage.

The first shot had been fired about thirty minutes ago, I guessed. I didn’t know; time had no meaning in the Gulag.

I could hear the other fighters shouting, screaming that they’d been released, could hear the screech of cell doors being wrenched open, the screams of men dying.

I was fucking incensed.

I wanted blood.

And I needed to fight!

My blood boiled under my flesh, fiery, searing, preparing me for a fight to the death. To do what I did best—maim, slaughter… kill.

Roaring out, I released the cell bars and once again began pacing the cell. My eyes, even in the dark, focused on the wall and the name engraved in the stone. Alik Durov. Underneath was an address. Brooklyn, New York. Below that, a motive. Revenge. Lastly, there was a clear instruction. Kill.

I had no memory of writing it down, no memory of my life before this place. Didn’t know if I ever had a life outside of these stone walls. My brain had shut down, blocking out anything but the need to kill, erasing any knowledge of who I was, where I was from, and why I was in this fucking shithole. But one thing was certain. I had written that name, that address, that motive, and that instruction. When I stared at those jagged letters carved permanently on the wall in my line of sight, anger consumed every cell in my body and I knew, without a doubt, I had to do what the inscription commanded.

But I had to get out of this place first.

The sound of the hallway door slamming open echoed off the walls. I rushed to the bars to see what the fuck was happening. My skin was itching with the need to break free, to join the fight… to get my revenge.

The clinking of cell doors opening made my heart race faster. My knuckles cracked with the intensity of my grip on the bars.

“Get me the fuck out!” I growled as I heard heavy footsteps approach my cell. My cheek pressed hard on cold metal as I stretched to see who was coming, my hands rocking the cell door until blood began to ooze from the constantly splitting skin on my fingers.

“Go! Go!” a male voice ordered a prisoner, and I heard a man running away. “They’ve been overpowered. Head for the east gate.”

They’ve been overpowered. Hearing these words spoken out loud, I lost it. Wildfire pulsed through my veins. Running to the back of my cell, I charged the door, my shoulder dislocating with the force.

Seizing my right hand, I popped my shoulder back in place. “GET ME THE FUCK OUT!” I bellowed, my voice sounding as sharp as razors.

The light above my cell flickered off, plunging me into darkness, but it didn’t matter. I could hear everything, I’d learned to embrace the dark. Thudding on the stone floor made its way toward me. My roaring and bellowing increased.

Suddenly, the footsteps stopped and I could hear the sound of heavy breathing outside my cell.

“Get. Me. The. Fuck. Out,” I warned. I caught a nervous flicker of movement to my right.

Two men.

Two men were pussying out of facing me head on.

“It’s him,” one of them whispered as my jaw ticked in annoyance. “It’s 818.”

“I won’t tell you again. Get me the fuck out, or when I find you, I’ll snap your spines,” I threatened in a low voice, as the bars creaked louder with the pulsating power of my anger.

The men still didn’t move. I could smell their fear and it just fucked me off even more.

“Get him out!” a voice ordered from behind and, suddenly, the familiar face of 362 came into view—my greatest rival but the man I spoke to and respected most.

362 grabbed a key and unlocked my door, his broad chest bare, black sweatpants covering his legs and his long black hair hanging down his back. He swung the door open and met me toe to toe at the entrance. His brown eyes bored into mine as my chest pumped with adrenaline. Then he smirked and slapped me on the arm, laughing. Shaking my head, I sized up the two men who blocked my way and then I smiled. I could kill the two weak fuckers in seconds. Snap their necks before they could fucking blink.

The smell of piss filled my nostrils as the two men stood frozen, wide eyes fixed on me. Then the tension of the moment was shattered when a gunshot rang out from upstairs.

Heart Recaptured by Tillie Cole

This week is the release week for Tillie Cole’s latest book Heart Recaptured, Book 2 in the Hades Hangmen series and Ky and Lilah’s story – finally! Tillie very generously provided me with an ARC a few weeks back so I’m afraid I did get to read it first…but at last I’m now able to share my review with you!

Title: Heart Recaptured

Series: Hades Hangmen #2

Author: Tillie Cole

Age group: Mature new adult

Genre: MC dark contemporary romance

Release date: 14th December 2014

Synopsis

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00049]Even salvation can be delivered through the love of the damned…

Beauty can be a curse.

Faith can be a cage.

Only love can set you free.

A few long weeks after being reluctantly ripped from the comforting embrace of her sacred prophet’s religious commune—the only life she has ever known—a terrified Delilah is thrust into a world enveloped by evil and swimming in sin.

Steadfastly devout in her faith, and retaining the deep belief that her soul is innately tarnished as a branded ‘Cursed woman of Eve,’ Delilah is determined to find her way home to her people in The Order and away from the corrupt and damned outlaw motorcycle club—The Hades Hangmen—who hold her at their secluded compound for her protection—a ‘protection’ she strongly resents.

Delilah yearns to return home, convinced that only amongst her own people, and under the holy guidance of the Lord’s revealed prophet, can her Satan-spawned soul be truly saved. Conditioned her entire life to believe she is a witch… a life-long temptress… the devil’s whore… Delilah increas-ingly resents her beautiful face, her shapely body and her sensuous effect on men. But when a man of the motorcycle club—a deeply sinful yet stunningly beautiful man—is charged with her care, Delilah begins to see that this dangerous and moralless sinner from the ‘outside’ may offer her something she did not know could truly exist: unconditional love.

Kyler ‘Ky’ Willis loves his life: a daily abundance of brotherhood, liquor, the freedom of the open-road and—best of all—his pick of hot women. Raised a biker brat and now VP of the most notorious MC in the States, Ky has no shortage of club sluts warming his bed; a situation he takes full advantage of… until a certain blonde enters his life… a gorgeous pilgrim-blonde he can’t get out of his head… a pilgrim-blonde he and his club recently-rescued from some backward religious cult… and a pilgrim-blonde he’s been ordered to keep the hell away from and his whorish hands off.

When yet another in a lengthy line of drunken blunders forces Ky to reluctantly take charge of the pilgrim-blonde’s care, he realizes that there could be more to this woman than just supermodel looks and a stacked set of tits. He begins to see that she could be the woman who could do the impossible—tame his wild ways and capture his reluctant heart.

But the unyielding bonds of Lilah’s past are strong, her ‘people’ determined and, with a new Prophet in charge and hell bent on revenge, they are mightily reluctant to let her go…

Review

At the end of the first book in the Hades Hangmen series, It Ain’t Me, Babe, Styx and the other Hangmen stormed the Order to rescue Mae and her sisters. We re-join them at that moment seeing it from Lilah’s perspective; how she didn’t want to leave the only place she’s ever known. A month passes and Mae’s sisters, Lilah and Maddie are still hiding in the apartment upstairs, never stepping downstairs. Lilah seems to struggle a lot more than Mae did with the outside world – letting go of her old life. She firmly believes she is cursed and descended from the Devil – something which is so heart-breaking to read.

From the moment he saw her Ky’s thoughts have only been of Lilah, the blonde haired beauty and religious nut with the most stunning figure and lips he’d like to get better acquainted with. His crude language and no shame behaviour scare her off and he’s promptly ordered by Styx to stay away. But when the need arises Ky is forced to become Lilah’s keeper, introducing her to the outside world and trying to bring her out of her shell, something which proves difficult as the Order’s impression is still firmly influencing Lilah’s thoughts.

As Ky spends more and more time with Lil his feelings start to become more than just carnal and Lilah learns that there’s much more to him than just his crude behaviour. But Lilah’s attitude still remains firmly with the Order’s lies and each day she suffers with the way she looks and her perception of the way men treat her.

As Ky and Lilah become closer, The Order meanwhile are assembling, travelling from all around the world for one person – Prophet Cain aka Rider. And whilst he settles into his new role and rallies his new people in some truly disturbing ways, the Hangmen remain in the dark.

But when the truth comes out where will Lilah’s loyalty lie? With the people who she’s known her whole life, those who abused her, belittled her and told her she was pure evil, something which she still believes? Or will it lie with her new family, those that have taught her to be herself and tell her she is of no less worth than any other man or women in the compound, but they’re unknown to her, their actions seemingly unholy and barbaric? Will she stay with her sisters and the men she’s been avoiding for months now or will she return to the people she has grown up trusting despite their endless torture?

Much like so many of us I’ve been anticipating the arrival of this book for so long now and when my ARC arrived on my Kindle I did let out a little squeal! Ok it wasn’t a little one it was a full blown scream – it was an exciting moment okay?! This book is quite different to the first as Mae wanted to escape her life, she left willingly and was more open to forgetting the Order’s lies and embracing her new life with the Hangmen but Lilah is taken against her will and still firmly believes everything they told her which makes for a very different read.

I’m not going to lie some of the content about what the Order do to Lilah is truly horrific and if extreme violence and abuse isn’t something you like to read then I’d tread carefully when reading Heart Recaptured. Having said that I’m so glad that Tillie did put it in, not only is it exquisitely written, bringing the story to a whole knew level but knowing that everything is based on true tales Tillie was told whilst at university made the whole story so much more poignant. I loved Lilah and her pain felt so real I did shed the odd tear, especially at the end – oh god THE END, I’m pretty sure my heart broke. And Ky? Sometimes he really was a bit of a loveable idiot but gosh love him you will. And then there’s the rest of the Hangmen…..can I have all of them?

This series has to be one of my all time favourites – its definitely got it all, romance, drama, angst, buckets of emotion…You will live their lives with them, their pain, happiness and heartbreak will become your own and once you start you’ll never be able to stop until you’ve reached the last page. If you thought Styx and Mae’s story was something special you haven’t seen anything yet…

A story that’s both heart-breaking and panty-melting this is definitely one unmissable, 5 star read – if you don’t one-click this RIGHT NOW then there’s obviously something wrong with you.

And if that didn’t convince, then here’s a cheeky excerpt….

Excerpt

Ky stalked toward me, his white shirt tight over his taut torso, his blue denim pants loose on his legs. As he approached, he ran his hand through his messy long hair, chewing slowly on a small, thin wooden stick gripped between his teeth.

I could not speak, could not think, could not breathe. My free hand reached behind me, resting on a shelf to keep me upright. The smoky smell of Ky washed over me. My heart was frantic and my blood rushed through my veins.

Ky’s nostrils flared as he approached, his blue gaze drinking in the sight of my modestly covered frame. He did not stop three steps in front of me as the brothers were required to do in the commune. He did not keep an appropriate distance, as a man should with a woman in public. Oh no, instead, he closed in until his impressive height towered over my head, his chest pressing flush against my breasts.

I could feel his intense gaze. I squeezed my eyes shut, too afraid to face this devilish man. I lost all composure when he was near. He was crude, grossly promiscuous, and although my mind warned me of his evil and seductive nature, my heart betrayed my virtue and strived to have him close. His beautiful face and body tempted me to take him into my body. He was my very own forbidden fruit, one of which I had to keep far far away.

 More about Tillie

Amazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.

Tillie Cole Author Pic

Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the ‘Toon’, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and gradu-ated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards New-castle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven ‘proper mint’ and ‘lush’ years.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, “D’you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book.” Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and “just bloody do it!” For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagina-tion.

Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glit-tery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that en-able her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing — yep, there’s more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!

After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl… Ye-haw!

It Ain't Me, Babe by Tillie Cole

Sinning never felt so good…
A fortuitous encounter.
A meeting that should never have happened.

Many years ago, two children from completely different worlds forged a connection, a fateful connection, an unbreakable bond that would change their lives forever…

Salome knows only one way to live—under Prophet David’s rule. In the commune she calls home, Salome knows nothing of life beyond her strict faith, nor of life beyond the Fence—the fence that cages her, keeps her trapped in an endless cycle of misery. A life she believes she is destined to always lead, until a horrific event sets her free.

Fleeing the absolute safety of all she has ever known, Salome is thrust into the world outside, a frightening world full of uncertainty and sin; into the protective arms of a person she believed she would never see again.

River ‘Styx’ Nash knows one thing for certain in life—he was born and bred to wear a cut. Raised in a turbulent world of sex, Harleys, and drugs, Styx, unexpectedly has the heavy burden of the Hades Hangmen gavel thrust upon him, and all at the ripe old age of twenty-six—much to his rivals’ delight.

Haunted by a crushing speech impediment, Styx quickly learns to deal with his haters. Powerful fists, an iron jaw and the skillful use of his treasured German blade has earned him a fearsome reputation as a man not to be messed with in the shadowy world of outlaw MC’s. A reputation that successfully keeps most people far, far away.

Styx has one rule in life—never let anyone get too close. It’s a plan that he has stuck to for years, that is, until a young woman is found injured on his lot… a woman who looks uncannily familiar, a woman who clearly does not belong in his world, yet a woman he feels reluctant to let go…

Dark Contemporary Romance/New Adult Novel.

Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and mature topics. Recommended for age 18 years and up*

When I first read the blurb for this book I was both intrigued and wary – having read some MC books before, I was wondering how Tillie Cole was going to pull it off as her previous books are nothing like this! But I should never have doubted Tillie’s writing ability because once again it’s utterly flawless and completely compelling.

In the opening scenes we meet a young boy named River who accompanies his MC President Dad to bury a body. Wandering away from the car he comes across a high metal fence around a large compound of some kind, and sitting at the edge is a young girl who must be either his age or younger. Seeing she’s crying he tries to talk to her but River suffers with an awful stutter and apart from his dad and best friend Ky he has to use sign language to talk to everyone else. But somehow he manages to talk to this girl making her his number three. This girl, though she barely speaks a word, enthrals River with her long dark hair and wolf eyes – she’s also his first kiss. His dad calls him away before he finds out her name and for years since he tries to find the compound again and the girl with the wolf eyes but he never does and the rest of the club believe he dreamt it all.

Salome (or Mae as her sisters call her) has lived in the commune her whole life – one of the four Cursed women whose beauty is believed to cause others to sin, she’s spent most of her life in solitude, locked away and treated abysmally for supposedly being created by the devil himself. Along with her two blood sisters and her best friend Lilah she’s suffered sexual and physical abuse since a young age but unlike her sisters Salome was chosen to become Prophet David’s (the leader of the commune) seventh wife on her 23rd birthday but after a horrendous event Mae manages to escape the commune but badly injured and finds herself outside the Hades Hangmen MC.

River, now known as Styx, has recently become the club President and finds Mae outside covered in blood and on the verge of death. Seeing her eyes he realises this may be the wolf eyed girl he discovered all those years ago and doesn’t hesitate to take her in. The rest of the story describes Mae’s new life in the world outside the fence, a world she was only taught is full of evil but now she realises she truly knows nothing about. She struggles with outside customs, the MC and her growing relationship with Styx – but can she ever really escape the commune’s clutches? And what about her sisters she left behind?

This story is full of grit and also tackles so many issues that I previously didn’t know anything about. Mae’s religious cult is something else – and the ‘Lord’s Sharing’ as they call the sexual abuse Mae suffers is horrifying, especially as the stories shared are based on true ones Tillie was told during her University studies. Again with Styx’s speech impediment, I really loved watching his journey as he slowly tries to find his voice for Mae. Much like all of Tillie Cole’s characters you can’t help but love those found in this book. Mae’s sweet naivety and determination to find herself a better life mixed with Styx’s strength and adoration of Mae makes for a great read.

Along with the fab characters, Tillie always adds a great twist into the story and boy is there an absolutely brilliant one in It Ain’t Me, Babe!! I loved her take on a biker MC book and the depth that the cult added to the story – it was completely compelling. It’s dark, gritty and hot as hell – with some hunky bikers to boot! Yet another Tillie Cole bestseller to add to your collection!

Bring on Book 2!

Remy (#3 The REAL Series) by Katy Evans

So I’m sad to say that this is the last book in the REAL series so far – at least its the end of Brooke and Remy’s story – and it’s their whole story, from REAL to MINE, all from Remy’s perspective…of course there are a couple of extra scenes and some new ones from 4 months after we left them at the end of MINE, but we get to hear the whole story again with a whole new perspective and come to understand the events that unfold more through another character’s eyes. Here’s the blurb…

♥♥♥♥♥

REMY by Katy Evans

New York Times bestselling author Katy Evans expands upon the intense love story begun in Real–this time from Remington “Riptide” Tate’s point of view in an engrossing novella length.

Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.

Through it all, there’s been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he’s ever had to fight for.

♥♥♥♥♥

I’d firstly like to thank Katy Evans for writing Brooke and Remy’s story from Remy’s POV! Usually I’m quite wary about reading the same story from a different character’s perspective as it can sometimes be quite samey and not as exciting as you know what to expect. But as Remy is such a complex character, mainly due to his bipolar, and with the addition of new scenes we either knew occurred but only heard about or completely new ones we haven’t read about before, REMY was still a fast-paced and enthralling read much like its precursors, REAL and MINE.

The majority of the book focuses on the events from the first book, describing what Remy felt like when he first saw Brooke and what he was thinking as she slowly broke down all his walls and let her in. After every chapter or so, there’s a chapter set in the present, which is 4 months after Brooke and Remy had baby Racer and got married. It’s set on the day Remy gets to marry Brooke properly with the church, flowers and white dress – everything Brooke has ever wanted and what Remy wants her to have with him. In these chapters Remy is getting ready to go the church, reminiscing about how they met and how they got to this point- the chapters from the past are his flashbacks as he remembers where it all began. I really liked how the book was interspersed with these chapters from the present – I felt they kept the book moving and your interest still captured. Though I still would have probably enjoyed a book entirely set in the past all from Remy’s POV, with the addition of the new present day chapters it added something different to the story so as you read it again it came across as a fresh new read with parts you still didn’t know about and were desperate to hear. Personally I just wanted to read more about their baby boy, Racer – he’s so cute!! I love how he only has one dimple and not two like Remy, because as Brooke puts it, he’s only half Remy’s.

Clamping my jaw, I pat Racer’s head and he grins at me. He has one dimple, not two. Brooke says it’s because he’s only half mine. I contest he’s all mine, and so is she.

I found it great to hear the story told by Remy, both when he was black and blue. Not knowing all that much about Bipolar, I found hearing about how he felt, what he thought, when he was black a really interesting read. Hearing about how even though he knew Brooke needed him and he needed to get up and train or fight, but sometimes he was stuck in such a depressed state he couldn’t bring himself to move from the bed, to do anything, how there was no escape from his dark thoughts, made you connect more with Remy’s character – seeing his vulnerabilities and how his mind worked added a new level to each scene you read about. I read once that to write a good book you should “flaw your heroes” which I think Katy Evans has done very successfully – Remy is a strong fighter most of the time but he battles daily with his mind, his own dark thoughts. I know not everyone likes to read about a flawed hero/male lead and prefers the perfect all-American guy but, what I can say, I’m a sucker for the vulnerable but strong ones!

In the previous books you don’t fully grasp Remy’s insecurities and his reasoning when it came to taking things slowly with Brooke. In REMY, you can feel his pain, confusion, hurt – his emotions are palpable and your heart breaks along with him as you read his story. Even now, when I re-read the first two books I see them in a new light because of Remy’s POV in this book and you can’t help but fall in love with Remy even more…if that’s even possible!

If I’m honest I could probably write pages on how amazing these books are, especially REMY, but really the books speak for themselves. Katy Evans is such an amazing author, I can’t wait for the next book in the series ROGUE which is Mel’s story, something that’s hinted about in REMY as she turns up to the wedding with her new mystery man…But until then I shall just have to get my Remy-Fix by re-reading all three books over again!

If you’re looking for a new series for your Summer Reading list I completely and utterly recommend The REAL Series – it’s heart felt, enthralling, passionate and so much more than you average love story. And if you’ve read the first 2 books but not REMY yet, you must read it! Katy Evans described Remy’s bipolar so well in the previous books but its not until REMY that you really appreciate everything he goes through and I guarantee that afterwards, Remington Tate will be one of your favourite book boyfriends, he’s certainly mine.

MINE (#2 The REAL Series) by Katy Evans

After reviewing the first amazing book in the REAL series I thought it only fair to review the second book too – plus it means I can gush some more about how awesome it is! I still get a book hangover from it even after re-reading it so many times!

MINE by Katy Evans

I will do anything to make her MINE.” –Remington Tate

In the international bestseller REAL, the unstoppable bad boy of the Underground fighting circuit finally met his match. Hired to keep him in prime condition, Brooke Dumas unleashed a primal desire in Remington “Riptide” Tate as vital as the air he breathes . . . and now he can’t live without her.

Brooke never imagined she would end up with the man who is every woman’s dream, but not all dreams end happily ever after, and just when they need each other the most, Brooke is torn away from the ringside. Now with distance and darkness between them, the only thing left is to fight for the love of the man she calls MINE.

♥♥♥♥♥

In this the second book in the series we find Brooke once again travelling with Underground fighter Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate as he starts the next fighting season in a bid to take back the title.

At the end of the last book Brooke had run back home after Remy allowed Benny the Black Scorpion to beat him to a bloody pulp to win the title, which landed Remy in hospital. Brooke, not knowing the truth, left him because she thought he allowed Scorpion to hurt him on purpose, that he was suicidal because of her, so thinking he would be better off without her and not wanting to watch him kill himself, she left him a letter telling him she loved him but couldn’t watch him do this and left him in his hospital bed. A month later Remy came back to her with her sister Nora who had been in Scorpion’s clutches. As it turns out Remy had given up the championship title in order to free Nora and get her back to Brooke.  Remy gives Brooke 3 days to come back to him – to take her job back for the next season – which of course she does. And this is where we find ourselves at the beginning of book 2 – two months on from the day Brooke came back into Remy’s life.

Now we’re on book 2 of the series I can finally talk about Remy’s bipolar! In MINE Brooke finally understands Remy in terms of his moods and actions – him being black or blue. It really explores more aspects of his bipolar and how it affects their daily lives – how Brooke thinks and acts slightly differently to adapt to his ways. I really loved this storyline, it really adds another dimension to the series – it’s not just another alpha male love story. This book also explores Brooke’s feelings after she left Remy and Remy’s insecurities about her leaving him again, that he’s not good enough for her.

There’s not a lot about the second book I can talk about without revealing lots of spoilers but the story revolves around them and their life as a couple in the new season and the difficulties they face. With Scorpion watching their every move and trying to provoke Remy by threatening Brooke, their lives were already quite stressful. But then something happens with Brooke which means she has to return home once again for another 2 months before she can travel with Remy again. After promising herself and Remy that she would never leave him again, this forced separation hits them both hard.

It also revisits the storyline with Remy’s parents and we learn more about what his life was like with them and the devastating consequences they caused him back then as a child and now as an adult – his parents are just so horrible, still can’t get over how horrendous they were! There are a couple of really quite emotional and intense scenes which focus on how bad Remy’s bipolar can get and what Remy is willing to do for Brooke. This is another reason why I love the bipolar storyline – it creates these really touching and gripping scenes which pull you in and you can’t put down.

I want him more than any one of these screaming women wants him.

I want every fragmented part of him. I want his body. His mind. His heart. His beautiful soul.

He says he’s mine, but I know that there’s a part of Remington Tate nobody will ever have.

I am his, but he is untamable and unconquerable.

The only one who can defeat Remington Tate is himself.

Much like the previous book there are some rather steamy scenes – it’s passionate, intense, obsessive and gripping. So definitely a book for the adults! Katy Evans manages to maintain this level of emotion and intensity throughout the book, caused by their problems and Remy’s bipolar, yet she keeps it light-hearted with some truly hilarious moments. I loved the complexity of their story and the characters – the brotherly relationship between Pete, Riley and Remy, Mel’s (sort-of) relationship with Riley, how Brooke and Remy use music to express their feelings (some of those scenes just make you melt!) and also the reason why Brooke had to go home for 2 months, I really liked how this affected their relationship. I also can’t not gush about how adorable and amazing Remy is once again – he’s this amazingly strong fighter on the outside, fighting to protect those he loves but inside he’s constantly fighting himself, to stay blue, to stop doubting himself and Brooke’s love for him. It doesn’t hurt that he’s just so HOT either! Yum.

If you read the first book and loved it as much as I did, then you definitely need to read MINE – it’s soul-shaking, emotional, steamy and grips you until the very end. There are twists and turns, highs and lows – their love will be tested to the limit. You get to know Remy more as a character, understand him and his feelings. Brooke faces new challenges and you get to watch her come to terms with her new life with Remy and his condition. This book is absolutely brilliant, I loved every minute of it – I cried, laughed and got so involved with their story I had a major book hangover afterwards! Definitely one for your summer reading list!

Real (The REAL Series) by Katy Evans

There aren’t many book series that I can safely say kept me hooked until the very end. Usually  the first is brilliant, the second is no where near as good and the third either pulls it back or is a complete flop. But, Katy Evans’ debut series REAL does no such thing – it’s intense, passionate, gripping and so damn HOT you practically combust!

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

♥♥♥♥♥

I warn you now these books will have you fan-girling after the first page…why? Two. Words.

Remington. Tate.

Remington “Riptide” Tate

Remington F**king Riptide Tate

Remy. Riptide. RIP.

Oh. Holy. Yum. Your other book boyfriends will pale in comparison to this one man – trust me.

But you can’t have an incredible man without a pretty awesome girl for him to chase…

Brooke Dumas has just graduated from her masters degree  and is now searching for a job as a sport rehab specialist. She once had Olympic dreams as a sprinter but after a serious injury her dreams were shattered and she was laughed away from the track. Fast-forward to 2 weeks after graduation and Brooke finds herself sat in an Underground Fighting Arena with her best friend Mel. Melanie has been telling her how amazing these Underground fighters are and how they’re such “sexy beasts”. But there is one fighter in particular who takes “sexy beast” to a whole new level and it’s him Mel has dragged Brooke to see. As she looks around she sees women everyone in various stages of undress, wearing red with Riptide painted on their practically naked bodies.  Brooke has never felt so out of place in her sophisticated shirt and black pants, but then she forgets everything and realises what all the fuss is about…

She sees him. Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate, the Underground’s bad boy and favourite fighter. Dressed in a red robe he’s the hottest thing Brooke has ever seen…that’s until he takes the robe off. Piercing blue eyes, dimples, dark rumpled hair and ripped muscles are all Brooke can see as he surveys the fans all screaming at him in the crowd – including Mel.

“Remy! Remy!” Mel shouts hysterically at my side, hands cupped to her mouth. “You’re so fucking hot, Remy!”

Thoroughly amused Remy turns in their direction and spots Brooke, cocking an eyebrow at her, he winks and then turns to his opponent with a grin. The fight starts and Brooke watches as he pummels his opponent – her pulse goes haywire, her skin flushes and butterflies fill her stomach as she watches him, and when he turns to fix her with a hot stare after the fight, she’s completely lost. As he starts the next fight, she makes her way to the bathroom to calm down, when she hears an almighty crash and a commotion behind her. Someone grabs her arm and turns her around, her face level with a sweaty male chest – and the glowing blue eyes of Remington Tate. He asks for her name and when it’s clear she’s too shocked to answer, Mel (whose caught up with them by now) tells him her name and her number.

He steps forward, and his damp hand slides into the nape of my neck. My pulse skitters as he lowers his dark head to set a small, dry kiss on my lips. It feels like he’s marking me. Like he’s preparing me for something monumental. That could both change and ruin my life.

“Brooke,” he growls softly, meaningfully, against my lips, as he draws back with a smile. “I’m Remington.”

After this intense meeting Brooke runs home, only to be sent tickets to his next show a few days later with her 3 closest friends. When the fight is finished they’re taken upstairs to Remy’s suite where Brooke thinks she’s about to agree to a one night stand, but instead Remy offers her a job as his rehab specialist for the next 3 months of the season. After some negotiating she agrees and the next day finds herself on a private jet with the rest of his team jetting off to his next fight. From here the story continues, their relationship growing as they move from city to city for Remy’s fights and his secrets and past are revealed.

Now if you’re thinking this is just another alpha male smutty story then you are SO wrong!! I can’t tell you why otherwise I’d be revealing a massive part of the storyline but Remy isn’t your typical alpha male, there are reasons for his actions and behaviour. And I have to say I absolutely love it! I love the complexity of Remy’s character, how he won’t sleep with Brooke until she knows him because he wants to be her REAL, not just “another fuck”. And I’m glad that Brooke stuck with him until he eventually admitted his baggage to her and finally made her understand why he’s the way he is. For Remy he’s so used to people only wanting him for his fame and money, not even his parents wanted him until he hit the big time, for him to finally find Brooke who only wants him for him, it’s understandable he’s obsessive with her.

Now I know I said the book wasn’t you’re typical smutty tale but it does have some rather naughty scenes and a whole lot of sexual tension so this is definitely a book for the adults! But if you want more from a book than just the smexy stuff then you still won’t be disappointed. Brooke is a strong female lead but is still completely relatable and down to earth and Remy may be obsessive and difficult sometimes but he can be gentle and protective, and some of the things he says to Brooke just make you melt! And the other characters in the book are brilliant too and really add to the story, especially Remy’s team who have been the only family Remy has ever known.

I can’t tell you how much I love this series enough, it’s an all-consuming story with two lovable but complex characters which takes you on an emotional journey that’s still able to make you laugh. I cried like a baby, laughed out loud and stayed up until the early hours to finish this book and have since read it over and over again. If you haven’t read the series, READ IT NOW! I can’t say too  much more without spoilers so you’ll have to read my review of book 2 for more. As for Katy Evans, after a series like this I can’t wait to read more from her, if you can write such an exciting and popular debut series such as this then just imagine what she’s capable of next…

Holly(Woods) by Naomi Laeuchli

It almost seems fitting that my first review on this blog should be of a debut novel. Naomi Laeuchli, from Arizona, wrote to me a week or so ago asking me to read and review her new book Holly(Woods) – which of course I said a massive YES to! Unfortunately she happened to ask me whilst I was amidst exams and moving out of my uni house so I only got round to reading it yesterday and it did not disappoint, in fact I stayed up way past midnight just to finish it!

Holly(Woods)

“In the first book of the Holly(Woods) series, Holly has moved to Los Angeles in hopes of pursuing a film career. When she’s cast in a small role on a popular TV show things start to look up, but she soon learns the world of Hollywood is a difficult one to navigate and not everyone can be trusted.

With the help of Evelyn Martin, a faded starlet, and Peter Glades, a man with a past he’s desperate to keep hidden, Holly tries to learn the ropes and deal with the politics of fame that follows her budding relationship with Hollywood heartthrob Alan Ryder.

But just as Holly starts to find her footing, a dark secret from the past threatens to destroy everything she has worked for.”

We first meet Holly when she’s auditioning for her first proper acting role where she meets big time producer Victor McCall who asks her to dinner to discuss her career. Holly, being somewhat young and naïve, agrees but it isn’t until she’s actually at dinner when Victor takes her hand and tells her he’d like to get to know her personally that the alarm bells start to go off.

Enter Peter Glades. A 32 year old actor whose hit rock bottom after a scandal 5 years ago. Now desperately trying to find work in Hollywood he’s at dinner with his manager Matt in the same restaurant as Holly, discussing a possible audition for…wait for it, Crocodiles in Space a new TV movie.

Hoping to escape Victor’s advances Holly runs outside the backdoor where she meets Peter who after hearing about her predicament tells her to go back inside, order the most expensive things on the menu and make a quick exit before the bill arrives. After ordering frogs legs, antelope and countless glasses of champagne, Holly runs back to her flatmate Amy.

A few days later she gets a call to say she’s landed  a regular role as a bartender on the hit western TV show Homestead. Enter Alan Ryder, Hollywood’s newest heartthrob, favourite movie star and regular on Homestead, who Holly of course falls in love with instantly. She also meets Evelyn Martin, a faded starlet and another regular on Homestead who provides Holly with some much needed (and sometimes cynical) advice on all things showbiz. As it happens Peter is filming Crocodiles in Space on a set nearby, so along with Evelyn, he helps Holly settle into her new found fame – something she knows nothing about. But Peter’s past appears to be coming back to haunt everyone, with potentially devastating effects – especially for Holly and her new life.

The story narrates the lives of all the characters, not just Holly’s, allowing us as the reader to see the story evolve through each character. There’s also an interesting side story involving Clint Morgan, a successful member of the paparazzi, and teen pop sensation Nikki Steele who Clint saves from public humiliation after she drunkenly passes out in the men’s bathroom in a nightclub. Nikki hires Clint as her new manager to transform her public image from a drunk, reckless young woman who still hasn’t grown up to a sophisticated and successful singer – the perfect teenage idol. At first it isn’t really clear how their story is connected to Holly’s but over the course of the book a few hints are dropped as to how they may be and I expect in the rest of the series their involvement in the darker parts of the storyline will be revealed.

I have to admit when I first read that this book was about a girl named Holly Woods who goes to LA to become a star I thought I was in for one of those typical Hollywood stories where the girl goes to LA, has an embarrassing run in with a Hollywood Hunk who she ends up marrying, gets pregnant and subsequently gets a new glamorous job from her new sexy husband,

BUT,

I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing Holly(Woods) is, yes Holly is a typically young and emotionally immature girl who has problems with her new found stardom, the paparazzi and her love life but there’s comic relief from Evelyn Martin’s cynical advice, and from Peter’s ridiculous TV movie Crocodiles in Space which provides several moments of hilarity. But most importantly there’s an underlying darkness in the book in the form of Peter’s secret and how it could change Holly’s new world completely, making Holly(Woods) more of a romance thriller than your normal bubbly Hollywood RomCom novel.

I loved how down-to-earth the novel and it’s characters are and also how well the main character Holly came across. Normally I find the ‘naïve-young-girl-with-stars-in-their-eyes’ characters a bit annoying and quite hard to relate to but Holly Woods’ sweet innocent nature won me over, especially when she first spoke to Alan:

“My name is Alan Ryder.”

“Yes, I saw you on the airplane six months ago.” She took a moment to realize how awkward that sentence had been and then rushed to clarify. “I mean your movie. I saw your movie on the airplane six months ago.”

I do warn you there is quite a big cliff-hanger, I completely forgot it was part of a series until the last 10 pages when I realised the massive revelation wasn’t going to be solved! I’m hoping in the next book Clint and Nikki’s characters will appear more in the main storyline and we’ll be told more about how they’re all connected, as after a while I actually really liked their chapters (or Episodes as Naomi has cleverly called them), and that Peter’s secret and subsequently the cliff-hanger will be delved into more, hopefully with Holly’s involvement this time! I spent the majority of the last few pages screaming at Holly to just go outside….*sigh*. Also can Peter please have a happily ever after? No one should have to go through Crocodiles in Space and not get a HEA afterwards!

All in all Holly(Woods) is a brilliant debut novel from Naomi Laeuchli. It’s a refreshing take on a story set in the Hollywood hills which manages to pull off both light-hearted RomCom content and a much darker Thriller storyline on a mystery which has yet to be solved. I can’t wait for the next one, which I hope is soon – I hate cliffhangers… If the rest of the series is half as good as the last few chapters (sorry, Episodes) of the debut we are in for a treat.

She picked up the script so she could sit down and then glanced at the title: Crocodiles in Space.

Peter had been so disparaging about it, Holly couldn’t resist her curiosity. She flipped it open to page one.

EXT. SPACE. NIGHT.

A lone astronaut floats in space alongside a derelict ship. The only man with any dignity in this whole movie. He dies in one page and doesn’t have to suffer through the next 98.

Holly stared for a moment at the comment that had been written in with pencil and then gave a burst of laughter.
