One single moment changes everything
In one breath, you can have it all
A split-second later, it can all disappear
Vanished forever

That was me

I had it all
Then in a cruel twist of fate, it was taken from me
A beautiful life gone in a flash

But he was there

He was there to pick me up when I fell
To protect me
My savior. My rock.

He was just a stranger

Just a selfless stranger with a face I’ll never forget
Can’t forget
Won’t forget

And like everything else, he just disappeared

As if he never existed
I have to find him
I need to find him
He has to know that he saved me

He has to know that in that one fleeting moment, he was all I could see

review

I couldn’t wait to read this book! Being a Tillie Cole novel I knew it would be something special and I certainly was NOT disappointed!

Since his Mamma’s passing Levi has struggled to find his way. Cripplingly shy and unable to speak to new people, let alone girls, Levi has found his new life on the football team difficult. Boys want to be him, girls want to be with him – and he wants nothing to do with it. All he wants is his family back together again, with his Mamma there to watch him grow.

When he finds a girl stealing from his rucksack, he’s devastated to find she took his wallet which contained the one thing left of his Mamma – her rosary. When he’s walking the streets and finds the same girl wrapped in wet blankets down an alleyway he can’t believe both his luck and her appalling circumstances. There’s something about her that calls out to him, that makes him want to know more. It’s from that moment in the alleyway he decides to help her anyway he can, if she will let him.

Elsie has only known a life of sorrow and misfortune. When a beautiful boy swoops in and saves her she can’t understand why. But after such a difficult life, will she let him in?

Levi and Elsie’s story is just such a heartfelt and beautiful read. I love both of their shy and adorable characters, and also their different levels of pain which made them so perfect for one another. I loved every second of this book and when it ended I was both unbelievably happy about their story but also so sad it had ended. I could read about gorgeous Levi all day. The Carillo brothers really are nothing short of perfection – Lexi, Ally and Elsie are 3 very lucky ladies!

A MUST READ!

“It’s me, I’m back,” I said loudly as I approached, trying not to startle her. The girl didn’t move, and for a minute, pure panic surged through my veins that something was very wrong.

But when my feet stopped before her, she jumped, a hoarse cry leaping from her throat. I stepped back, as those huge blue eyes fixed on mine. Her breathing was erratic. Droplets of sweat ran down her cheeks.

“Sorry, I called out that it was me. You didn’t hear.”

The girl weakly pulled the scarf off her neck, the skin underneath flushed and red. When she looked at my handful of goods her eyes widened. Taking it as my chance to explain, I crouched down and held out the coffee with cream and sugar. The girl’s brow furrowed, causing me to prompt, “It’s for you.”

She swallowed, and my cheeks heated with nervousness at the look of sheer gratitude on her face. Clearly seeing I wasn’t lying, she fought to straighten her weak body and sat further up against the wall. I resisted the urge to help her as she fought for breath. But I stayed back. She’d just been attacked. She didn’t want my touch, even if it was kindly meant.

The girl’s hand lifted up. I thought she was taking the coffee, until her hand landed on her large hood and she slowly pulled it back to reveal her face.

She kept her eyes downcast and ran her tongue over her broken lips. My breathing was held captive in my throat, until she looked up and I released the pent up breath. I could see that she wasn’t as young as she looked. Something in her eyes told me she was near my age, which I quickly realized would make it almost impossible to get her help. She wasn’t underage. I couldn’t make her go anywhere she didn’t want to.

The silence between us became thick and stagnant. I pushed the cup forward to her hand. The girl, regarding the cup like it was a lifeline, slowly reached out and took in her frail grasp. For a moment I thought she might drop the large cup and I steadied the bottom so it didn’t spill.

As my hand balanced the coffee, I could feel the magnitude of her trembling. Placing my coffee down on the ground, I shuffled forward helping her bring the coffee to her lips. As the first taste of the liquid hit her lips, her eyes closed and she took in a stuttered labored breath.

“You okay?” I asked quietly. The girl opened her eyes. Her head tipped to the side, studying my face. She hadn’t heard me. Clearing my throat again, I repeated, “Are you okay?”

The girl watched my lips, and flickering her focus back on my eyes, she gently nodded her head. Helping her rest the coffee on her bent knee, I leaned back, then passed over the bag of food. I realized that she was intently watching my mouth as I lifted the bag and deliberately said, “Sandwiches and cookies.” My cheeks blazed under her attention, and my stomach tightened with nerves. This was the most I’d ever spoken to a girl in my life, and it seemed that she was even more introverted than me.

About Tillie Cole

Tillie Cole Author PicAmazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.

Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the ‘Toon’, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven ‘proper mint’ and ‘lush’ years.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, “D’you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book.” Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and “just bloody do it!” For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination.

Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that enable her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing — yep, there’s more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!

After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl… Ye-haw!

He makes me realize what I could have and that what doesn’t destroy me, will eventually make me stronger.

I refuse to let it destroy me this time, dragging her down in the process. I just hope she can make it through the last round beside me and not forfeit.

Once that bell rings, watch out, because I will come for you, I will hunt you down and fight to the death.

I’m the King, I won’t be defeated.

Review

Jace has had a troubled past and has put his heart and soul into MMA fighting to overcome it. He’s determined, focused and he isn’t about to let anyone get in his way.

Chyna loves the MMA fights but she only ever goes for one reason – to see Jace “King” Kash fight. She loves his power and his focus and promises herself if she ever gets the chance she’d be all over that. When mutual friends introduce them their attractive is undeniable. Through a series of meetings they grow closer until they can’t deny their chemistry any longer.

Together they will fight for both Jace’s career, for each other and for their future. But with Jace’s past mixing with his present, will they be able to survive the fight?

Really loved this storyline, Jace is a brilliantly alpha fighter who is nothing but a teddy bear on the inside when it comes to Chyna. Chyna’s spunky attitude and humour was a great addition to their story. Full of drama and excitement this is one fight you won’t want to miss!

Perfectly Imperfectly by Harper Sloan

It’s finally my turn to review the blooming AMAZING Perfectly Imperfect! Meet Willow and Kane in the newest stand alone by Harper Sloan!

perfecty imperfect

Blurb

Mirror, mirror … who’s the fairest of them all?

I still cringe when I hear that line. A fairy tale that had girls pretending they were the fairest, the most beautiful, and the most entitled. A fairy tale most couldn’t grow out of turned my haunted childhood memories into a living nightmare. Girls who grew up believing that pile of garbage became the meanest of all ‘mean girls.’

And those mean girls were right – it was a line meant for all the beautiful people in the world – and I knew the answer would never be me.

The women with long legs, flat stomachs, and perfect chests.

The type of women Kane Masters gravitated toward.

Well, that’s definitely not Willow Tate.

No. That will never be me.

Because I’m completely imperfect.

And … I hate myself.

I have no idea what Kane could possibly see in someone like me when he could have them.

perfectly imperfect teaser

REVIEW

Harper Sloan is just so fabulous and this book perfectly illustrates just how much! Perfectly Imperfect is the kind of book that grabs hold of your heart and won’t let go because not only is the story and Mr Masters utterly perfect, it’s also a story which we can all relate to.

Willow has spent her life seeing only her imperfections. Having lost her mother at a young age she has only known the poisonous words and actions of her step father and sister. When a handsome gentleman asks her to marry him she thinks he’s her best chance of being happy and throws herself into a married life with him. Little did she know he would be just as cruel as her supposed “family” are.

Left broken, she embraces the realisation that she isn’t the type of girl who gets a fairytale ending and readies herself for a life on her own. But when Kane Masters enters her life just as she hits rock bottom, she’s surprised to find out that he has no intention of letting her go.

Willow always thought she was too imperfect for someone like Kane but with every minute she spends with him she soon realises that those imperfections are the exact reason she is perfect. Will Willow find her happy ending with her own handsome prince?

There are too many ways to say how much I love this book, so I better keep this short before I start rambling. It’s a story that will resonate with you because the truth is we all have a bit of Willow inside of us and reading a story where that part finds happiness is always going to be wonderful. And having a leading man like Kane Masters certainly helps as well…I mean, Wow *fans self*. I think we could all use a Kane Masters in our lives, and if I could be half the woman Willow is I’d be a very happy lady.

perfectly imperfect teaser 2

Excerpt

“Are you nervous right now?”

I nod.

“Tell me why.”  His demand, steady and calm, gives me the courage I need to tell him.  To open a vein and bleed my insecurities.

“I’m not perfect,” I whisper.

“And neither am I, Willow.  I don’t want perfect.  What so many see as perfect, to me, is fake.  Perfect isn’t achievable naturally.  No one, and I mean no one, is perfect.”

I’m shaking my head before he’s even done speaking, but one long finger comes up and presses against my lips before I can speak.

“No, let me finish.  There isn’t beauty in perfection.  It’s as fake as the image the word projects.  Beauty is found in imperfection, Willow, because to admit you’re not perfect means you’re admitting you’re not whole and absolute.  When I think of myself, I see someone willing to admit he’s as far from complete as it gets because, in order to get to that perfection, I need to find the other part of me who will make my life better.  To take all the faults I have and fill them, and only then will I be there.  You see, the way I see it, the only way to become perfect is to find that perfectly imperfect person who brings it out of you.”

When he stops, I swear I might have stopped breathing.  How am I supposed to respond to that?

“Do you trust me?” he asks, his voice strong and sure.

“Yes, Kane.  Nerves or not, I do.”

“Then let me show you what I see when I look at you.”

He brings his hands up, framing my face once again in a way I’m quickly becoming addicted to the feeling of.  His warm eyes implore, begging me without words to let him continue.  I do not intend to stop him, regardless of the butterflies currently taking over my system.  I’m all in.

His Muse by Coral F. Black

So I finally have another review for you! I’ve been ill for a while so I’ve been slacking – sorry! But just look how pretty this cover is!!

Blurb
No one had ever looked at me like that. Especially not the hottest man I’d ever seen. He had the lean, tan muscles of a world class athlete, thick black hair, huge hands marbled by big veins. Before he picked up his camera to shoot, he looked at me with eyes that could have set me on fire.

Nothing else mattered; he was all I wanted.

But when Daniel Baldessari called me “undateable” in order to get a reaction for the perfect fashion shot, I knew I was really in trouble.

And after that first shoot, things started getting even stranger. Who was the “mystery client” that wanted to hire me for an exclusive contract and was sending me gorgeous flowers and boxes of sexy silk clothing and stilettos so that I’d say yes? Why did Daniel Baldessari’s beautiful cousin keep showing up at his house? And what was the dark secret from his past that threatened to tear us apart before I could find out if this maddening man even wanted me?I knew I had to find out.

Review

As this is a short read there’s not too much I can say without ruining the story for you so I’ll keep my review short and sweet also.

Twyla is trying to make it as a model to support her family and when she finally lands herself a job with a brilliant photographer she couldn’t be happier. The only thing is it’s for a mysterious client. When she arrives and meets the photographer, the Daniel Balderssari, she’s blown away by his good looks. But when he opens his mouth and is nothing but rude to her, her fantasy is ruined.

Running home she knows she shouldn’t think of Daniel, but she can’t forget him. And when her unknown client sends her gifts and sends Daniel after her she knows she hasn’t seen the last of him yet. But who is this mystery client, and what is Daniel really after?

A really intriguing storyline, I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

Chapter 1: Gaze

When I met Daniel Baldessari, I didn’t know what real romantic love was. But I didn’t really care.

All I cared about was how he looked at me. No one had ever looked at me that way. Especially not the hottest man I’d ever laid eyes on.

Like a hunter about to pounce on his prey and lick her to death.

“Twyla,” he growled, his voice deep and rich like dark honey. “Unusual.”

“Daniel Baldessari,” I said back, surprising myself with the breathiness of my voice. I usually wasn’t a flirt. But the way he looked at me…I could feel my body lotion melting on my skin. I swallowed hard and my legs trembled like a deer’s in the crazy high sandals he’d had me wear.

I’d come to Daniel’s studio in his home in the hills above the city. An Italian villa with balustrades and columns, walls overgrown with bougainvillea and morning glory vines. Large plate glass windows overlooked the city that was sparkling after a very unusual and much-needed Los Angeles rain. I walked down a path lined with long, pointed cypress trees, up the marble steps to the front door. A dark-haired woman in a pencil skirt and sky-high heels met me and ushered me inside.

Daniel Baldessari was leaning against the wall wearing a white collared shirt open at the neck and jeans that clung to his ass and thighs and threatened to tear at the knee.

Those eyes were watching me where I stood in the bright light of the room. So intense.

Was he mad at me? Did I look all right? I felt my knees weaken and practically buckle under me. How was I going to model?

“Twyla, are you feeling uncomfortable?” he asked. “Do you feel good in the clothes?” He was holding a large, black, expensive-looking camera and his sleeves were rolled up so I could see the veins in his arms and hands.

Vein porn.

“The dress is beautiful,” I said. “I love everything.” I sounded like a twelve-year old.

“Then why do you look so tense?” He wasn’t smiling.

I stared down at the shiny white floor that matched the flawless walls. Then I made myself look back up at him.

“This is my first time,” I blurted.

“Really?” He put down his camera and came over to me. He was much taller than I was, even in the high heels. The body of a world-class athlete. I realized I was holding my breath.

“Where are you from?” he asked. He was close enough that I could smell the clean, foresty scent of his thick, black curls.

“Ohio.”

“That’s very exotic.”

“I know, right?” I tried to joke back. He still didn’t smile.

“Well, Twyla from Ohio, it’s nice to be your first.”

I didn’t think I was imagining the implication. What could I say to that? I pressed my thighs together and the thong dug into me, not in a bad way.

He went on, “But this is the big city and I need you to nail this. You got this job without a go-see. No one gets that opportunity. And I’m not sure if you realize that every minute we waste is costing the client money.”

If I hadn’t been aware, I was then. God, I wanted to please him. It was instinctual, powerful. And it wasn’t just about pleasing the client. I need to get the money to send to Jack.

“Now, just relax.”

Right.

“Pretend you’re alone, with your boyfriend, doing something you love.”

I blushed again; I could feel it travelling from my cheeks down my throat to the tops of my breasts. If I weren’t careful, my nipples would light up.

“What?” He sounded really impatient now.

“No boyfriend,” I said. There was Cooper but he wasn’t like Daniel Baldessari.

Compared to Daniel, Cooper was a boy in the presence of a man.

“That’s impossible,” Daniel said. “A young woman like you.” I felt myself melt a little. Was he flirting? Then he paused, held up his camera and pointed it at me like a weapon. “Unless. Is there something undateable about you?”

My mouth dropped open and adrenaline shot through my body. “What did you just say?”

But Daniel Baldessari was busy snapping photos of my animated expression, my adrenalized body.

“That!” he said. “That’s what I want.”The manipulative piece of… And that was how it began.

Rule of reporting 101– don’t bang your subject.

Sophie Hall has just gotten the opportunity of a lifetime–to profile Nathan Ryder, the hottest baseball player since A-Rod, for her first solo assignment as a reporter. Rumor has it Nathan is going to be drafted to the Major league, and yet he still fits an intense training regime around volunteering at a animal shelter. He’s a prodigy with a heart of gold, as American as apple pie and has an ass that deserves a trophy all its own. He may be the country’s heartthrob, but Sophie isn’t going to fall for that. She just has to remain objective and cover the story.

But she didn’t bet on Nathan’s gorgeous green eyes or the way his arms flex with muscle when he’s holding a bat. And she certainly didn’t think he’d be witty and smart and caring. Nathan is completely untouchable, but she can’t help it if those lingering gazes turn into something more. How could she not fall at the thought of the hottest guy she’s ever met devoting his limited free time to saving kittens?

When Sophie’s scoop turns into Nathan’s scandal, Nathan needs her more than ever. With both of their careers on the line will they strike out – or hit a home run?

Review

What a great book! A really fun read with lots of drama and HOT scenes! Definitely has something for everyone.

Sophie has worked up to this moment her whole life. With an office full of men who doubt her skill as a journalist she needs this interview to go well to prove her worth. Interviewing Nathan Ryder could change her life and nothing, not even Nathan, is going to stop her. That is if she can get close enough to him to actually interview him.

Nathan hates journalists and Sophie has to use everything she has to get him to trust her. But the more she gets to know him, the harder she seems to fall. With her career on the line she tries to resist but with an undeniably attraction how long will she really be able to last?

Absolutely loved this book! I mean who could resist a hot baseball player who volunteers with kittens and kids?! Loved the chemistry and the story between these two – a must read!

Annabelle

I’ve always loved Zander Brockman in some shape or form. The boy who lived next door for the first seventeen years of my life has been my best friend, my confidant, my first crush, and my first love. I trusted him with my life and my heart. When he smiled at me I knew everything was going to be okay…

Until it wasn’t.

Zander

I haven’t seen that girl in seventeen years, and I’ve missed her every damn day. I knew I wasn’t good enough for her, so the night before I left with my bandbrothers for California, I stole a night with her. I lived off those memories. There hasn’t been a day that has gone by that I haven’t wanted to talk to her just one more time, but I knew she deserved a better man than me. Now, after seeing her again, I realize that I didn’t care if she should have a better man. My feelings were still as strong as they have ever been for her. I wanted to be with her…

But she hated the very sight of me.

As I listened, I couldn’t fight back the tears that suddenly threatened to choke me. From the first note that left Axton Cage’s mouth, I knew that there was no way OtherWorld wouldn’t go far with this guy front and center for them. He wasn’t just good; the man had a fucking gift. And it broke my heart into a million pieces. One look at OtherWorld performing with Axton singing their songs and any manager with a working brain would sign them on the spot.Swallowing hard, I glanced at Noah. The look on his face was a mixture of amazement and gut-wrenching pain. He knew as well as I did—as well as everyone in the room—that not only was Axton going to fit with the band, but that this guy was better than even he had ever hoped to be. The pain in my heart at the knowledge that I was even closer to losing Zander than I had been just thirty minutes ago, doubled at the pain my beloved brother was going through right then.

The Aerosmith song faded easily into the Skynyrd song, “Free Bird,” and even though Axton’s vocal range changed, it only showed just how talented he really was. I lowered my gaze to the floor, hiding the tears that were so close to spilling over. I wanted so hard to hate Axton, wanted it with every fiber of my being, but I couldn’t. None of the pain I was feeling was his fault. He’d just shown up to a freaking audition, unknowingly ripping my heart from my chest with that amazing voice of his, and shattered it into a million little pieces.

I couldn’t hate him. Not when he was going to help the man I loved succeed in his goals.

Skynyrd drifted seamlessly into Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” with Wroth’s talented fingers. Glancing at Zander, watching him keep beat with the bass, seeing how much he loved being a part of this music world, I lost the battle. One tear escaped from my eyes and was quickly followed by a hundred more. I stood, keeping my face averted from everyone as I went into the bedroom and shut the door quietly behind me.

I quickly tore off my clothes as I entered the bathroom. Turning on the shower, I climbed in before the water even had time to warm. My knees gave out and I slid down in the corner of the tub, letting the cold water beat down on me as the first sob tore my heart loose from my chest. Pulling my knees up to my chest, I hid my face in my raised thighs and cried for the loss of the man who wasn’t even gone yet.

Surge (Fastlane #1) by Sloan Storm

Today is the day! Dyson Vix has officially arrived! Surge by Sloan Storm is the first book in the brand new Fastlane series about the hot racers of Formula 1! You NEED to read this book!

Blurb

Dyson Vix. The bad boy of Formula One Racing.

The first time I met him he was completely naked, and he couldn’t have cared less.

The second time I saw Dyson, he just stood there, staring at me. His fire suit hung low on his waist, and his body was dripping in sweat, grease and… well, you get the idea.

The ultimate playboy, there isn’t a hairpin turn he can’t handle or a woman he can’t have. Dyson lives life like he drives – hard, determined, and like it might be his last day.

We couldn’t have been more different. After a family tragedy, I’ve been left to raise my nephew, Simon, all alone. Raising him has given me more joy than I could’ve imagined, but it came at a price. He is my entire world, and everything I do is with him in mind. I haven’t had a date in months, instead focusing solely on him. Man troubles are the last thing we need, especially the kind reckless thrill seeker Dyson Vix would bring.

But fate has other ideas.

I’ve been thrust into his fast-paced world, and the more time I spend with him — the more I see of the troubled man behind the roguish charm — the more my resolve crumbles. Our chemistry is undeniable but isn’t without risk. Jealousy and threats to my home life mean I could lose everything I’ve worked so hard to protect.

The stakes have never been higher. Will we make it, or are we destined to crash and burn?

Review

This is a fast-paced, heart pumping roller-coaster ride of a book! There’s drama, romance and some moments that are both heart breaking and utterly hilarious! I could NOT put this book down!

Ava hasn’t had the easiest time of late. When her sister died she became the sole carer of her nephew Simon. Whilst she completely loves and adores him her life was irrevocably changed. Her plans for med school were put on hold and she instead became a nurse to pay both the bills and Simon’s school fees.

When a drop dead gorgeous F1 driver turns up at the hospital with 2 Grid Girls in tow she’s less than impressed. His arrogant, cocky attitude was frustrating in every possible way. Not to mention his little sexcapade in the exam room when she left him in their with the girls. So when she’s offered the chance to become the team’s medic she’s hesitant to say the least. But with the money they’re offering and her desperate need for funds she can’t refuse.

When Ava didn’t know Dyson, only his playboy ways, he was easy to resist but when she starts to see the man behind the charm her resistance begins to crumble. A playboy driver is the last thing her and her little family need but how long will Dyson allow her to tell him no?

Holy smokes this book! Dyson and Ava’s chemistry is simply off the charts, and their passion coupled with the drama and emotion this book is crammed full of, made it incredibly hard to put down – in fact I devoured it in one sitting! I can NOT wait for more of this series. If it’s anything like Surge we are in for a real treat! I mean Dyson? Totally yummy 😉

It wasn’t the first time I’d seen a man’s bare ass first thing in the morning.

But one that… perfect?

No.

Never.

With my fingers still wrapped around the door handle, I froze in place, my eyes inappropriately fixed on the man’s partially exposed, lean and muscular backside. Morning sunlight shined on him through the exam room window, casting the shadow of his hard body beneath the thin fabric of the exam gown.

I stood there for a moment too long, temporarily forgetting I was there to do my job. Just then, the man, who had been looking out the window, turned in my direction.

We locked eyes. He arched an eyebrow.

Shit.

As quickly and as subtly as I could, I averted my gaze and instead snapped my eyes to his chart which I held in my free hand. Around the same time, a strong odor of over-applied perfume entered my awareness. What’s worse, it smelled like a mix of cotton candy and sweat—cheap and tacky.

Continuing into the room, the source of the aroma appeared in my peripheral vision. To my left sat two women. One a blonde, the other, a redhead. They looked to be in their early to mid-twenties, around my age, and by the way they dressed, not from around here—Austin that is.

“Hello,” I said, flashing a polite smile at them.

Their eyes met mine with an icy glare. They didn’t respond.

I looked away from them and back towards the man.

“Mr.… Vix?”

He took an extra second to reply. His eyes wandered along my body.

Wow? Really?

At last, he nodded and looked at me. “Dyson,” he said.

The door to the exam room closed behind me with a hiss of the hydraulic swing arm.

“All right,” I began, shaking my head a bit.

“Dyson… Dr. Wilcox will be in in just a moment. In the meantime, I need to check your vital signs.”

Dyson walked towards me and stopped about a foot or so away.

“Should I disrobe?”

I blinked. Clearing my throat, I stammered a response, “Um, n-no. That won’t be necessary.”

He winked at me. “Another time then.”

This had to be a joke.

I straightened my spine and nodded in the direction of the exam table. “Have a seat, Mr. Vix.”

But instead of walking towards the table, the man looked at me again.

“It’s Dyson.”

“Right, my apologies. Have a seat, Dyson.”

The thin tissue paper covering the length of the table crinkled and crackled as he sat down on it. Dyson swung his legs casually over the side and hooked his hands along the padded edge. Composing myself, I spent the next few minutes getting his vital signs without any further interruptions.

Once finished, I looked at him.

“Dyson, I need to draw some blood for the tests we’re required to take. Do needles bother you?”

My eyes locked on his. They were a shade of blue that I’d never seen before. Blueish gray, like steel. He reached up and slid his fingers through his dirty-blonde hair.

“Nope,” he replied with an easy shrug.

“Don’t bother me at all.”

From behind, I sensed the two women watching our exchange. Their silence was the only clue I needed that they were more than just friends with him.

A couple of minutes later, I’d finished drawing his blood.

Only one thing remained before Dr. Wilcox would come in and conduct the full exam. I walked to the other side of the exam room, picked up a urine sample cup and made my way back towards him, extending it in his direction.

One corner of his mouth turned upward in a deviant curl. Wordless, he eased off the exam table, took it from me, and passed by on the way to the restroom, next to the entrance of the exam room.

My head moved on a swivel while he walked. Dyson made no effort to cinch up the back of his exam gown. He stopped, catching me looking yet again. However, instead of saying anything, he gestured over his shoulder towards the two women.

“Is it okay if I have some company?”

My mouth drifted open. “I…”

The expression on his face was indecipherable. Was he being serious? The truth was, no one ever asked me a question like that during an exam before. On the other hand, nothing about this exam was normal so far.

Dyson chuckled at my lack of a reply. “Joke.”

I responded with an uneasy laugh.

Why was this guy making me feel like a thirteen year old?

Was I blushing?

I reached up and touched my cheek with a subtle swipe.

It felt like it.

Just then, Dyson began to toss the cup in the air with casual flicks of his hand. He gestured towards the women, pointing to the one on the left.

“That’s Svetlana,” he began before he nodded in the direction of the other one.

“And that’s Anastasia.”

Yep. Not from Austin.

Once he finished, he looked back at me and raised his eyebrows. I looked at him for a moment, not sure of the meaning. A second later, it dawned on me.

“Oh, I, um,” I said. “My name is Ava. Ava Walters.”

“Girls, keep Ava company while I’m gone.”

Seconds later, Dyson disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. I turned my attention back to the women, who seemed less thrilled with me now than ever.

“Anastasia and Svetlana?” I began, summoning all the politeness and professionalism I could. “Is that… are you Russian?”

They glanced at each other for a moment before cackling with laughter. Without answering me, they spoke to one another in a language I didn’t understand. Once they’d finished, they looked away from me and returned their attention to their phones.

I shook my head and tried to ignore their rudeness. Instead, I used the time to make notes in Dyson’s chart. Around that time, the door to the exam room opened. Dr. Wilcox walked inside, nodding in the direction of the women.

“Good morning,” he said.

Their attention never wavered from their phones. Dr. Wilcox approached me with a suspicious frown on his face.

“Mr. Vix? Where…?”

I nodded towards the bathroom.

“Ah, I see. Very good.” He extended his hand towards me, unfolding his fingers as he did.

“May I?”

I passed Dyson’s paperwork to him. Dr. Wilcox perused my notes for several moments.

“Do you need me for anything else, Dr. Wilcox?” I asked.

Dr. Wilcox raised his hand to his chin as he studied Dyson’s chart.

“No,” he muttered. “Not right now, thank you, Ava.”

With that, I turned and started to walk away, when Dr. Wilcox spoke once again.

“On second thought, Ava, there is something I need to discuss with you.”

I looked at him. “Yes?”

However, before he told me, the bathroom door opened, and Dyson appeared. He walked towards me with the nearly full sample cup in his hand. He shook it back and forth with a few quick snaps, causing the liquid inside to bubble.

“Be careful with that,” he said, passing it to me.

I took it from him. “Thank you. I will,” I deadpanned.

When I finished speaking, Dr. Wilcox introduced himself.

“Mr. Vix? I’m Dr. Wilcox.”

Dyson nodded. “Good to meet ya, Doc.”

Dr. Wilcox closed Dyson’s folder and patted it with his hand.

“Now that we’re done with your vital signs, blood work and the like, we just need to conduct a brief physical exam, and we’ll get you on your way. I know you’ve got to get back to the track.”

“All right,” Dyson replied.

“Would you like to do the exam one-on-one?” Dr. Wilcox said. “You know, have some privacy?”

Dyson shrugged.

“Doesn’t matter to me. Everyone can stay. I don’t care.”

Dr. Wilcox was the consummate professional, always putting the needs and comfort of his patients above everything else. Satisfied Dyson was ready to proceed, he nodded, “Okay then, we’ll have you disrobe first and then come back over to the exam table.”

Without wasting a second, Dyson dropped the gown to his feet.

Still holding the urine sample in my hand, I stared in slack-jawed awe. There was no getting around it. I leered at the man. While he hadn’t yet noticed me, the women did.

“Hey! Girl!” one of them growled at me in a thick European accent.

Dyson and Dr. Wilcox turned towards me.

“Is everything all right, Ava?” Dr. Wilcox asked.

Ignoring the girl, I nodded, refocused on the task at hand, and walked in the direction of Dr. Wilcox to assist with the examination. Picking up Dyson’s folder from the exam table, I opened it and readied myself to take notes for Dr. Wilcox, refusing to look at Dyson.

After all, one look was all I needed to know he was physical perfection. Lean, muscular, not to mention the most well-endowed man I’d ever seen. This exam couldn’t get over fast enough.
