Heaven In The Dark by Tina Wright

Something a bit different for you today but no less brilliant! If you love whirlwind romances with a twist you’ll love this one!

heaven in the dark

Their meeting was chance.
Their love was fate.
Their future was…dangerous.

Orphaned at 14. Kidnapped at 20. American college student Allie Miller has known more than her share of heartache and terror. But when Italian industrialist David Swift inadvertently interrupts her captors, rescues her and whisks her off to his villa to recover, Allie’s future finally looks bright. She and David embark on a passionate love affair, but soon Allie must battle two new obstacles to her happily ever after: David’s past, including the mysterious American father he will not discuss; and one of her kidnappers, a sociopath with a vendetta against the couple and an affinity for abduction.

Now, the couple’s love…and their very lives…are on the line. Can Allie and David keep history from repeating itself? Can they stop a madman bent on revenge? Or will their pasts destroy any chance of a future?

HEAVEN IN THE DARK contains explicit sexual content and is intended for mature audiences. While it is the first of two books in a series, it is a stand-alone novel.

When Allie was captured and taken away she thought her life was destined to be a dark nightmare filled with pain and misery. But when a handsome stranger accidentally finds her and takes her away she couldn’t believe she had been so lucky. David was not only her saviour but he also happened to be the sexiest man she’d ever seen. How could she not fall madly in love with him?

Caught up in her happiness and new found love she didn’t think about what the future might hold. She didn’t realise the lengths her captors would go to, to get their revenge nor did she know about David’s past. Would they be able to overcome it all together and find their happily ever after?

I really enjoyed this book, David and Allie’s love affair was a brilliant read and I loved the way David took care of Allie. There was plenty of drama and passion involved making this a brilliant read!

I am so totally and completely in love with Sloan Storm! Though she loves to tease and torment us with her amazing cliffhangers, her books always deliver and after these first three books I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and whatever comes next from her!

Maddie and Grey have almost reached the point of no return. Neither in a purely romantic nor business relationship, they’re treading the line between the two – but not very successfully. Maddie has everything she wanted. Her business is booming and she’s making a new life for herself. But she is still under Grey’s control. She once dreamt of making it as an actress, and no matter how successful she is now she can’t let go of that dream. No matter how much it costs her.

Grey is used to getting his way. His control over Maddie he sees completely necessary and in no way an issue. He’s invested a lot in her but he can see that she’s distracted. Knowing she’s hiding something from him but not knowing what, he sets out to discover her secret.

Both Maddie and Grey will reach their limit. Each have their own desires but they will have to decide whether these include the other one of them. A troubled path lies ahead of them, the question is will either of them come out the other side, and will it be together?

OH what a cliffhanger!! Maddie and Grey are both so very stubborn, they’re the kind of characters you spend the book screaming at to make them listen to each other. I can’t wait to see how their story progresses – with lots of cliffhangers and drama I’m sure!

So in love with these books – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Sloan Storm is a verbally difficult, yet physically generous, writer who pens imaginative yarns based on dominant men and the women who challenge them. As such, power plays and passion are the heart of each and every story. The writer’s creative tendencies may drift as the mood strikes, but the essence of all tales told wind up back at the same place… the polarizing difference between the sexes.

After all, what else is there in life?

Sweet Hope by Tillie Cole

YES The Excitement is Real!!! Sweet Hope by the bloody brilliant Tillie Cole is finally here and what’s more we finally get to find out who the mysterious Elpidio is!!! Book 4 in the Sweet Home Series tells the tale of Ally and her mystery man who was hinted at by Austin at the end of Sweet Fall…having read it for myself I can safely say you will NOT be disappointed!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000447_00008]

From the USA Today Bestselling Sweet Home Series, comes Sweet Hope.

My name is Ally Prince and I’ve always been unlucky in love. I don’t know why, I just always… have.

When all of my best friends were falling for their soul mates in College, I was left behind. I was Ally, the pretty cousin of superstar quarterback, Romeo Prince. I was Ally, the best friend to the most amazing group of girls I’ve ever known—a title I loved, but one I became tired of ‘just’ being. And I was Ally, the one on which they could all rely.

But to me, I was Ally, the girl with the heart no one had claimed… And I was, Ally, the girl, who underneath it all, was heart-breakingly lonely.

I LOVE love; the thought of it, the nervous excitement of falling for Mr. Right, the desire of someone becoming my entire world… of me becoming theirs. I’ve always wanted passion, heart-stopping, epic, life-changing romance… I’ve always wanted the fairytale… I’ve always wanted it all.

It just never seemed like I would get it.

For the past few years I’ve thrown myself into my career as a museum curator. I’m the best of the best, the person every museum wants to hire, so when an opportunity came up to move to Seattle, I jumped at the chance. My cousin and my best friend lived in Seattle and I needed a change.

I needed a new beginning.

I wasn’t expecting to meet anyone in the Emerald City. I wasn’t expecting to work closely with the reclusive new sculptor my all-important gallery design was centered around. And I certainly wasn’t expecting to fall for him… heart-stopping, epic, life-changing love…

My real life fairytale come true.

But, like in every fairytale, there’s a villain, a dark and tortured soul… I just didn’t know that the villain and the hero in my story would end up being one and the same.

New Adult Romance Novel—contains adult content, sexual situations and mature topics. Suited for ages 18 and up.

Sweet Hope Teaser7

I have been waiting for this book with eager anticipation and with not a lot of patience! The mystery of who Ally’s mystery man is has captivated us for a long time now but finally we get to know the truth! But don’t worry I won’t say who I’ll just refer to him by his other name, Elpidio.

Its been several years since we last left the guys in Sweet Fall, all of our favourite couples are loved up and married but Ally Prince is still single. Now doing well as an art curator she’s making a life for herself but when she looks at her best friends in love and happy she can’t help but feel like there’s something missing. Flying to Seattle she’s about to interview for her dream job – curating the infamous Elpidio’s marble sculpture collection. She’s never met him, doesn’t even know what he looks like, but his sculptures speak to her in ways nothing else ever has.

When she gets the job she’s over the moon and what’s more she gets to live with Rome and Molly whilst she’s there. One night while she’s setting up the sculptures she notices a man lurking in the shadows…Elpidio. Worried about his anonymity he shies away from her but after a while he finds it hard to stay away. Each night he meets her at his exhibition they grow closer until one day their chemistry becomes too much.

Ally is falling hard and fast for the man that captured her even before they’d met. But she only knows him as Elpidio, the man who makes beautiful emotional sculptures which speak to her on every level…the man whose given her some of the best nights of her life.

Elpidio has a past which has left him damaged to his core, it inspires his tortured artwork and riddles him with guilt and sorrow each and every day. He’s finally found a small piece of happiness with Ally but what will happen when she finds out the truth?

I’m going to warn you now I spent the majority of this book with tears in my eyes and the rest of it full on sobbing. And not gentle tears running down my face I mean full frontal ugly sobbing surrounding by dozens of tissues. The emotion in this book? God it just makes your heart ache the entire time. It’s just so beautiful and heartfelt and the raw pain Elpi feels is excruciating. I devoured this book, there is no other way to describe it. It was mesmerising and intense and just so God Damn Good!! I loved reading about all the gang again especially Rome and Molly! I won’t say who else so you can’t guess who Elpi is but I just love all of the Sweet Home gang!

I could quite literally go on and on about how incredible this book is! I can’t recommend it to you enough. Knowing it’s written by the amazing Tillie Cole automatically tells you you’re in for one hell of a book with an even bigger emotional rollercoaster! You will not be disappointed with this one let me tell you!

Sweet Hope is a beautiful, emotional, heartfelt story full of hope and above all love. You will be held captivated from start to finish and crying your heart out is almost a guarantee. I’m not sure I will ever get over my book hangover from this, and to be honest I’m not sure I want to.

As the curtains closed behind me, I jumped in surprise when I caught movement ahead.

My eyes slowly traveled upward to a pair of legs clad in black jeans, to a sculpted waist and torso covered in a short-sleeved black shirt splashed in what looked like marble dust.

My heart was in my throat as I drank in large arm muscles, sculpted and pronounced under heavily tattooed olive skin. My gaze drifted to a muscular tattooed neck, partially covered by a dark short scruffy beard and shoulder-length dark brown hair.

I had to blink to believe the man I’d wanted to meet for years was really standing right in front of me. I forgot how to breathe. I forgot how to speak, move, or anything else that should come naturally to a human being.

Elpidio’s head was down, avoiding my gaze, but I knew he knew I was there. Every inch of his body was taut, as if ready to spring.

My voice failed to work as I watched his broad chest rise and fall. Then, with deliberate slowness, he exhaled harshly through his nostrils and lifted his head.

I nearly staggered back.

He was… dark. There was no other adjective I could think of to do him justice. Dark, aggressively tattooed, and absolutely yet unconventionally… beautiful.

Elpidio was as inspiring to look at as his sculptures, and when his almost-black eyes pierced mine, I released a pent up shuddering breath.

I thought my legs would give way as I watched those curious onyx irises rove all over my body. I trembled under his scrutiny, knees weak, heart fluttering.

Italian, I thought. Austin had been right. Elpidio definitely looked Italian.

It felt as though minutes passed in silence as we stood motionless, not knowing what to say.

Trying to salvage a modicum of professionalism, I snapped out of my stupor and stepped forward, timidly holding out my hand.

“Hello…” I said in a cracking voice.

Elpidio’s stern gaze never once drifted from mine, his dark eyes stabbing. “I’m Aliyana. You… you must be Elpidio?”

In a second, I witnessed paleness spread on his cheeks and his eyes dropped to the ground, his shoulder-length brown hair falling to cover his face. He was protecting his anonymity. Vin had told me how uncomfortable he was with any acclaim or recognition. His mentor clearly wasn’t lying.

“It’s okay,” I rushed out. “I’m the curator of your exhibition. Your being here stays with me. I’m ethically bound to protect your anonymity if you so wish.”

Elpidio’s shoulders seemed to relax some at that, and sighing reluctantly, he raked back his long hair from his face and raised his head.

This time I could see him more clearly. He was ruggedly edgy, and on his left cheek, he wore a tattoo of a black crucifix just below his eye. He simply screamed danger. His eyes were unnervingly assessing as though he had no trust in me, or toward anyone else for that matter.

Suddenly, Elpidio reached forward and encased his hand in mine. When our hands touched, I lightly gasped, the heat of his palm searing. I’d forgotten I’d been holding my hand out to greet him, too entranced by his unrefined looks and silent temperament.

“Aliyana,” he said gruffly. My heart skipped a beat on hearing his husky drawl.

About Tillie Cole

Tillie Cole Author PicAmazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.

Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the ‘Toon’, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven ‘proper mint’ and ‘lush’ years.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, “D’you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book.” Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and “just bloody do it!” For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination.

Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that enable her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing — yep, there’s more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!

After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl… Ye-haw!

Step-Lover by Bella Jewel

Released earlier than expected Step-Lover is the next book Bella Jewel has gifted us with to obsess over. Forbidden and smoking hot, it definitely doesn’t disappoint.

A STEPBROTHER ROMANCE – Intended for mature audiences only

I met him before I knew.

I loved him before I knew.

I didn’t know he was my stepbrother when I fell for Bladen. I fell for a mystery guy who I spent a long, amazing weekend with. Then he got up and left me, without even a goodbye. I was nothing more than a bit of fun.

He broke my heart.

I didn’t see him again.

Until my mom and her new husband, Jack, decide to take us all on a family vacation to the lake so I can meet my new stepbrothers for the first time.

I don’t see it coming.

When he gets out of that car, my world stops. My passionate lover is…my stepbrother.

He isn’t the same man. He’s a prick and he makes sure I know it.

I’m not the same woman. I’m in love with him and I very much plan to make sure he knows it.

He won’t make my life easy. I won’t give up.

As always whenever a Bella Jewel book hits my Kindle I know without even reading the blurb it will be amazing – it just goes without saying now. I was definitely intrigued when I saw that it was a stepbrother romance. I’ve been gifted a lot of this genre recently so was interested to see what Ms Jewel would do. Of course what she delivered (yet again) was an intense, HOT and passionate story which had me engrossed from start to finish.

Aria hasn’t had the easiest up-bringing. Having been involved in a horrifying and devastating accident at a young age, she still lives with the haunting memories of the night she watched half her family die. Now just her and her Mum, they’ve both grieved and struggled in the last 10 years or so to come to terms with their new lives. Having finished school Aria and her bestfriend Mel decide to go out and celebrate before college starts.

That night Aria meets Mystery Guy. She feels completely drawn to him, despite never learning his name or anything else other than the fact he looks completely edible with no clothes on. After spending a heated, intimate weekend with one another Aria wakes up cold and alone in an empty hotel room without a note in sight. Resigned to the fact the weekend obviously meant more to her than to him, and with no name to find him with Aria tries to forget her Mystery Guy and move on.

A few months later her Mum has remarried and she’s started her Pre-Med studies at college. A year passes and her new Stepfather asks her Mum, Aria and her bestfriend to spend the summer at his lake house with his 3 sons who she’s never met. Reluctant to go but not wanting to upset her Mum she agrees and soon finds herself in an incredible house fighting Mel for rooms.

When she hears a car park out front, her and Mel spy on her new stepbrothers from the window. And who steps out? Her stepbrothers Brody, Ripley…..oh and Mystery Guy. AKA Blade – her other new stepbrother.

Both of them finally knowing who the other is but unable to act on it, makes living under the same roof incredibly difficult. Aria’s Mum is finally happy and they decide they can never act on their feelings if they want to keep their family together.

A love/hate relationship begins spanning over the next year. Both unable to resist the other but not wanting to destroy their family for the sake of their happiness. Miserable, Aria avoids Blade at all costs whilst he continues to run from his feelings. But moving on is never that easy – you can’t choose who you love, let alone switch it off.

The road is a bumpy one filled with heartache and an intense love, but when push comes to shove will their fragile control of their feelings be enough to keep them apart for their family’s sake or will they risk it all for their chance at happiness with each other?

Step-Lover is full of drama and suspense – burning hot and deliciously forbidden Aria and Blade’s love is not without it’s troubles. There were definitely times I wanted slap Blade around the back of his head but I still loved him anyway. And I really felt for Aria, having survived something so gruesome she definitely deserved some happiness. I completely loved all of the secondary characters – particularly Ripley and Mel! Ripley’s part in the story was brilliantly written and I can NOT wait until Mel and Brody’s book! It’s their individual stories which set it aside from other novels in this genre – that and the incredibly hot sexy scenes! Ms Jewel certainly knows how to set the pages on fire!!!

I demolished this book in a few hours, all over tasks became insignificant when I had this baby in my hands. Fabulously written, ridiculously hot and deliciously tense Bella Jewel has done it again. Bring on book 2!

Where We Belong by Eve Connell

Two Words. Mesmerising And Enchanting. That is how I would describe Where We Belong.

This book has to be one of the most beautifully written stories I’ve ever read. Truly a tale of old fashioned romance and second chances this is definitely one for those romantic at heart – just look at how gorgeous the cover is!

One man diving into the past.

One woman emerging from the depths.

At the age of seventeen, Amelia Baide won silver at the Olympic Games and was the second-fastest woman in the pool. Then one tragic night she crashed into a lake and was dragged out without a pulse. Now twenty-four, she is still haunted by it and hasn’t swum again. Until this year’s anniversary of the accident. It is a day unlike any other and a strange turn of events finds Amelia back at a swimming pool.

Harry Jamieson had eyes for one girl, while women and the media had eyes for him. As a trainer of Olympic athletes, he was an in-demand man. Until one boozy morning after … But from bad luck to pure chance he runs into his old flame, Amelia, at a swimming pool no less. She doesn’t remember a thing from the night of the crash.

And Harry knows every single secret.

The pair joins forces—a comeback for Amelia and Harry’s ultimate coaching opportunity. But dodging waves is hard to do; and even the strongest swimmer may sink.

Where We Belong is a second-chance love story for young and old, for swimming enthusiasts and romantics at heart.

My Review

Oh. My. Gosh. THIS BOOK! Just so many feels!! It’s just so, so, beautiful and heart felt and up-lifting!! I felt so damn good when I finished the book, I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so hard

*insert a happy crying face here*

But my gushing aside, I don’t know how anyone could not love this book. It’s a story of hope, love and new beginnings – of overcoming every fear you’ve ever lived with and coming out the other side a better and happier person. It definitely made my day a little brighter.

Amelia Baide was once the second fastest woman in the pool and won an Olympic Silver Medal as a teenager. All set to become the next greatest thing her life was going, well, swimmingly. But after one fatal night her world drastically changed.

Now 24 she hasn’t set a foot in the water since that night 6 years ago – crashing into a lake and drowning has made the one thing she loved her ultimate fear. Nightmares of that night, the night she died for several long minutes and lost everything, haunt her everyday and she now merely goes through the motions of her life but isn’t truly living it.

Harry Jamieson was one of Amelia’s bestfriends and teammates – he was there cheering her on and supporting her for as long as she can remember but after that night she never saw him again.

Unlike Amelia, Harry can remember everything about that night in the lake and his guilt has eaten away at him ever since. Like Amelia he too hasn’t set foot in the pool and now stands firmly on the edge training other Olympic hopefuls. With him being in high demand his life was going well until one drunken night goes a step too far and now he’s losing contracts thick and fast.

With both of them still drowning in the past a chance encounter brings them back together. Now back in his life Harry can’t let go of her again and offers her the chance of a life time – to train with him and live her Olympic dream.

The two begin a journey of intensive training and get closer by the day. But Amelia is still in the dark about what really happened that night and Harry knows every sordid detail. When it all finally comes to the surface will Amelia be able to face the truth or will she find herself drowning in helplessness and despair once again?

Harry and Amelia’s connection runs deep both in and out of the pool – the highs and lows of their relationship make for a beautiful read. This is truly a story of second chances, determination and hope – that even when you feel like you have nothing left you keep fighting until the bitter end.

This story is a remarkable read told brilliantly from both Harry’s and Amelia’s points of view. Each character had their own troubles and heartache but together they fought for each other and the dream they thought they’d lost all those years ago. You will laugh and you will most definitely cry but throughout it all you’ll be rooting for these two right up until the last page. Every competition Amelia competes in feels like you’re there on the side lines cheering her on and when Harry is watching her from the side of the pool you’ll feel his excitement and nerves as your own.

Any true romantics at heart or swimming enthusiasts will adore this book. The secrets about that fateful night are slowly drip fed to us over the course of the story and will have you enraptured until its all out in the open. But most importantly its a story of second chances – in life and love. It will teach you that not matter how bad it gets, no matter what stands in your way, you have to fight for what you believe in, for what your heart truly desires.

A story that will suck you in and capture your heart, this second chance romance will leave you reeling. Inspiring, beautiful and heartfelt – Where We Belong has it all. Just make sure you have some tissues, chocolate and wine on standby, you’ll need them.

At the end of the last book we were all left in suspenders ( *cough* sorry English humour 😉 ), I mean suspense, as Katia finally found out the truth about her marriage with Marcus and Marcus had finally, FINALLY, realised he was in love with her but instead of apologising and telling her this he pushes her away thinking she’ll be better off without him! What?! WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!! Oh yes that’s right he wasn’t!! Because as soon as we pick up volume two Marcus is wallowing in his self hatred at what a bloody idiot he was and desperately trying to find her to get her back. There really were several times in this book where I was either screaming in frustration or just wanting to thump their heads together!!

The first part of the book brings us up to speed from the moment Katia walks out right up to 2 years later. Katia has moved states and moved herself and her mother into, well, a shit-hole and is working her butt off to support them. Not only does she have her mother to worry about but also  something else that’s followed her and is a constant reminder of Marcus. When she can no longer cope she calls her Father to help with her Mum and he convinces her its time to go back and find her closure by divorcing Marcus.

But of course nothing is that easy is it?

She stays with her brother Ford and along with her other brothers and best friends she fights for the closure she desperately needs but deep down beneath the hatred and betrayal she’s still in love with him and when the passion runs high there’s no denying her feelings.
This has to be the perfect ending to Marcus and Katia’s story. It really is a roller-coaster ride of emotions with a hell of a lot of downs but in the end Bella gives us our HEA. Their path to happiness is paved with anger, hatred, betrayal, pain, anguish and demons – and when tragedy strikes Katia becomes the monster she’s always believed Marcus to be. But at the end of it all does love really conquer all?

There’s a lot of controversy over Katia’s actions at the beginning of the book, about the things she kept form Marcus (which I won’t spoil for you don’t worry) but though I may not 100% agree I think it’s difficult to judge unless you’ve been in that position yourself, and after the amount of pain Marcus caused her I can understand her reasoning. The craziness at the end though I did think was a bit insane on her part!

I screamed, cried, and sat on tenterhooks throughout this last instalment and though it finished far too soon I don’t think I would have handled the suspense much longer! The perfect ending to a brilliant 2-part series.

When I say Bella could write just about anything and I’d love it I’m being deadly serious – I’m pretty sure she’d make my shopping list sound better! As soon as I see a new release I’m all over it before I’ve even read the blurb because I just know it’s going to be fabulous! This story is jam-packed full of emotion and hits you like a tonne of bricks (…in a good way) – if anything is going to give you an emotional hangover its this one! Marcus may be a dick at the beginning but he’ll be up there with your other book boyfriends by the end of it!

Anguish, Betrayal and Passion. Three things this book has in spades. Add to your TBR list and ONE-Click now – this steamy tale is not one to be missed!

RAZE by Tillie Cole

Today it’s my turn to post my review of RAZE by Tillie Cole! I was lucky enough to be given an ARC so here’s my review and all the details you need to know! PLUS there’s an EXCERPT!

Title: Raze

Author: Tillie Cole

Age group: Mature new adult

Genre: Dark contemporary romance

Release date: 30th December 2014

RazeTo take back life, one must first face death…

One man stripped of his freedom, his morals…his life.

Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.

After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge…bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.

Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into this: a rage-fueled killing machine. A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals…her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Triad’ bosses of New York’s Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafia boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better; the Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside…then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget…for both their sakes.

But when weeks later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man…this man they call Raze.

For once in my life I am speechless. Stunned. Lost. After finishing this book I thought, what am I meant to do now? How can you go back to normal after finishing that?! I don’t think I truly understood the concept of a book hangover until RAZE, to be so hung up on a story, on a bunch of characters, that thinking about anything else, doing anything else, seems like an impossibility. The depth of emotion in this book left me reeling. I can safely say that this book is one of, if not the, best book I’ve ever read – if you don’t go and buy it now I may have you committed….no really, I will.

Kisa is the daughter of New York’s Russian Bratva boss, Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, the head of the infamous ‘Triad’ of bosses. She is protected, hidden and controlled – her every move is watched, her clothes, actions and words are chosen for her, nothing is her own. Growing up she had the other Bratva boss children – her brother Rodion, Alik, Luka and his sister Talia but then everything changed.

Luka was born with brown eyes but in one there was a smudge of blue – the exact shade of blue of Kisa’s eyes. Their mothers declared it was a sign they were meant for each other – that their souls matched. They were inseparable and even at a young age Kisa new there would never be anyone else for her.

But in a tragic event she lost both her brother and Luka leaving her with only his sister and Alik. Alik had always had his sights set on her but he’s disturbed, insane, his love for her was a need, a hunger; he needed her to calm the demons inside. From the moment after Luka’s death Alik claimed Kisa as his own and has controlled her every move ever since.

Kisa must learn to be the perfect Bratva wife – never speaking out of turn, doing as her husband says and volunteering at church to redeem their families’ sins. Having been engaged to Alik for two years now she knows that when they finally do get married it will only get worse. His abuse, anger and rage are something she’s come to deal with but as they still live in different houses until they’re married she has yet to endure it 24/7.

The Bratva run an underground gambling ring called The Dungeon, a cage where men fight to the death all in the name of money and family honour. Alik is the undefeated champion, choosing to feed his bloodlust by butchering his opponents. Kisa helps to manage the ring and even approves of Alik’s participation – if he lets out his rage in the ring then maybe her treatment will be better.

Enter Raze. Taken as a young boy he remembers nothing about his past. Kept in a dungeon, abused, drugged & beaten, he is kept locked away with other boys like him and forced to fight to the death with one another in a cage. Drugged to make them forget themselves and to fuel their eternal bloodlust, he only knows himself as fighter 818 – no name, just a number – though the guards call him raze as he would “raze any fucker that got in my way”. When he was first taken one of the other boys warned him he would forget himself and if he had any hope of staying alive then he should write his revenge on his cell’s wall – write the name of the person who put him in there, write down the reasons for him to keep going, so that one day he can have his revenge.

As one of the best fighters they have he’s survived the ring for over a decade until one day a riot breaks out and he manages to escape. So he did the only thing he could remember – go seek his revenge. Making his way to Brooklyn he begs for money on the street to earn the funds he needs and its here that he meets Kisa whilst she’s out with the church food van.

But what they don’t know is that their paths will cross a lot more than just the few meal times they share, for his revenge not only leads him back to Kisa but also to the Dungeon as he becomes they’re newest fighter. Drawn to him in ways she knows she shouldn’t Kisa watches him in the gym, stealing glances when she knows Alik is gone.

But the problem is Raze looks back at her too and if things continue Alik is sure to notice and punish Kisa for her wrongs, or worse kill her. The longer Raze is away from his prison, from the drugs, the more he starts to remember and there’s something about Kisa that he is drawn to, that helps to ease his pain.

Will Raze finally have his revenge and remember where he comes from? Is he the answer to all of Kisa’s prayers – will she ever be free of Alik’s control? Or will they be able to save each other?

If I could marry this book I’m pretty sure I would. It has something for everyone – romance, drama, violence, pain, heartbreak, joy….dear Lord there are just too many FEELS! My heart pounded for the majority of this book and I’m pretty sure my mouth was gaping open for most of it too. This book definitely needs a warning: booze, chocolate, tissues and panties are all an essential requirement for this book, mostly because of all of the feels but also because Oh. Holy. Yum. Raze is just delicious!! Can I keep him? Please!!! If you don’t go and buy this book right now there is clearly something wrong with you!

Oh and PS.

Raze is mine 😉

Here’s an Excerpt!

Guns firing.

Gunshot after gunshot and the tumult of shouting pounded through the stone ceiling as I paced the small area of my dank cell. Above me was a stampede, the thunder of hundreds of feet; prisoners were on the loose. And here I was trapped in this fucking cell!

I need to get out. I must get out! I screamed inside my head as I ran my hand over the metal bars keeping me trapped inside.

Charging the door of my cell, my right shoulder slammed into the metal. It didn’t even shake. Wrapping my hands tightly around the bars over the “window,” I scanned the dimly lit hallway, its flickering dull bulbs swinging back and forth from all the heavy movement upstairs. This level of the prison, the Gulag as it was known amongst the inmates, was reserved for us champions, the most prized of the death fighters. The fucking killers, the murderers, the monsters they’d created to want nothing but to feel rage and spill blood. We were jailed in the bowels of this shithole, no chance of escape. Our cells were too far apart to ever see another fighter except when we were training.

My breathing became ragged. Bellowing in frustration, I pulled on the steel bars, my arm joints creaking with the enormous pressure I put them under. My bulging, drug-created muscles corded with the effort. I roared out a final yell when they refused to budge.

The shot they’d just given me was making my skin crawl and was evoking the need to fight. I was scheduled to fight later tonight. I felt rage, nothing but rage.

I needed to kill. It was the only way to stop the rage.

The first shot had been fired about thirty minutes ago, I guessed. I didn’t know; time had no meaning in the Gulag.

I could hear the other fighters shouting, screaming that they’d been released, could hear the screech of cell doors being wrenched open, the screams of men dying.

I was fucking incensed.

I wanted blood.

And I needed to fight!

My blood boiled under my flesh, fiery, searing, preparing me for a fight to the death. To do what I did best—maim, slaughter… kill.

Roaring out, I released the cell bars and once again began pacing the cell. My eyes, even in the dark, focused on the wall and the name engraved in the stone. Alik Durov. Underneath was an address. Brooklyn, New York. Below that, a motive. Revenge. Lastly, there was a clear instruction. Kill.

I had no memory of writing it down, no memory of my life before this place. Didn’t know if I ever had a life outside of these stone walls. My brain had shut down, blocking out anything but the need to kill, erasing any knowledge of who I was, where I was from, and why I was in this fucking shithole. But one thing was certain. I had written that name, that address, that motive, and that instruction. When I stared at those jagged letters carved permanently on the wall in my line of sight, anger consumed every cell in my body and I knew, without a doubt, I had to do what the inscription commanded.

But I had to get out of this place first.

The sound of the hallway door slamming open echoed off the walls. I rushed to the bars to see what the fuck was happening. My skin was itching with the need to break free, to join the fight… to get my revenge.

The clinking of cell doors opening made my heart race faster. My knuckles cracked with the intensity of my grip on the bars.

“Get me the fuck out!” I growled as I heard heavy footsteps approach my cell. My cheek pressed hard on cold metal as I stretched to see who was coming, my hands rocking the cell door until blood began to ooze from the constantly splitting skin on my fingers.

“Go! Go!” a male voice ordered a prisoner, and I heard a man running away. “They’ve been overpowered. Head for the east gate.”

They’ve been overpowered. Hearing these words spoken out loud, I lost it. Wildfire pulsed through my veins. Running to the back of my cell, I charged the door, my shoulder dislocating with the force.

Seizing my right hand, I popped my shoulder back in place. “GET ME THE FUCK OUT!” I bellowed, my voice sounding as sharp as razors.

The light above my cell flickered off, plunging me into darkness, but it didn’t matter. I could hear everything, I’d learned to embrace the dark. Thudding on the stone floor made its way toward me. My roaring and bellowing increased.

Suddenly, the footsteps stopped and I could hear the sound of heavy breathing outside my cell.

“Get. Me. The. Fuck. Out,” I warned. I caught a nervous flicker of movement to my right.

Two men.

Two men were pussying out of facing me head on.

“It’s him,” one of them whispered as my jaw ticked in annoyance. “It’s 818.”

“I won’t tell you again. Get me the fuck out, or when I find you, I’ll snap your spines,” I threatened in a low voice, as the bars creaked louder with the pulsating power of my anger.

The men still didn’t move. I could smell their fear and it just fucked me off even more.

“Get him out!” a voice ordered from behind and, suddenly, the familiar face of 362 came into view—my greatest rival but the man I spoke to and respected most.

362 grabbed a key and unlocked my door, his broad chest bare, black sweatpants covering his legs and his long black hair hanging down his back. He swung the door open and met me toe to toe at the entrance. His brown eyes bored into mine as my chest pumped with adrenaline. Then he smirked and slapped me on the arm, laughing. Shaking my head, I sized up the two men who blocked my way and then I smiled. I could kill the two weak fuckers in seconds. Snap their necks before they could fucking blink.

The smell of piss filled my nostrils as the two men stood frozen, wide eyes fixed on me. Then the tension of the moment was shattered when a gunshot rang out from upstairs.

This Week’s Hot Reads

So Today I’ve decided to share what I’ve read throughout my week and my mini review of it. Enjoy!!

1. Opposition (A Lux Novel ) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This is the last book in the Lux Series 😦 In the final epic battle between Luxen, Arum and Mankind, we finally get to know whether Katy and Daemon will have their happy ending – will they ever be free of Daedalus or the Luxen? And after the major cliffhanger at the end of the previous book where Katy is left with 2 Origins and a pregnant, slightly crazy, Hybrid after her Luxen family are pulled away by their invading kind – I was dying to know what happens. And I wasn’t disappointed – I mean how could you when Daemon Black is concerned?! One of my all time favourite series and a finale well worth the wait – 5 Stars ∗

2. Precarious (Jokers Wrath MC #1) by Bella Jewel

As a die-hard Bella Jewel fan I couldn’t wait to read this! At first set in a prison, Ash is working as a prison guard and is one of the best. When she hears a biker is coming in for shooting a family she’s intrigued to see what he’s like as she hasn’t really encountered one before. At first he won’t talk but she senses that there’s more to Krypt than meets the eye. But after being caught in the crossfire of his daring escape, Ash is taken by Krypt to his MC and hidden away. He’s a criminal, albeit a very hot one, and a murderer too, but he’s the only thing keeping her alive – the question is, will she be able to resist temptation when it’s just the two of them locked away in the mountains? I’m a big fan of MC books and this one didn’t disappoint me, it was gritty and HOT – and the storyline was awesome. Yet another 5 stars

3. Breathe With Me (With Me In Seattle #7) by Kristen Proby

The With Me In Seattle series has been going on for a while now, usually after 7 books I’d start to get a bit fed up but with each book focusing on a different couple as well as the gorgeous Williams and Montgomery men this series has had me coming back for more. In book 7, it’s Mark Williams’ turn after he’s reunited with his childhood sweetheart Meredith Summers. We know from previous books that Mark is a bit of a player, but we never really understood why. It turns out that whilst in high school he gave his heart away to Meredith, a hopeful dancer, but when it’s time for her to go off to dance school she ends things to focus on her career. After a painful event brings them together, can they forgive and forget and start a new life together? I love the characters in this series – they’re funny, relatable and so damn hot! I loved the book, but as it’s not my favourite story in the stories it has to be 4 stars

4. Sweet Fall (Sweet Home Series #3) by Tillie Cole     (ARC for Book Blog Tour)

This book I can’t talk too much about as I was given a review copy for my special review post next week as part of the official release book blog tour! This is Lexi and Austin’s story – we know from the previous books that Lexi is the gothic cheerleader and Cass’s best friend, and Austin is the tattooed bad boy of the Crimson Tide. Both of them have secrets – secrets that could kill them both. Lexi’s story is heart-breaking and I felt honoured to be reading something so personal to author Tillie Cole, who I think is nothing short of AMAZING by the way! With their problems trying to tear both of them apart and destroy their lives, can they finally find peace and save one another? This book is just something else, I think my heart broke at least a dozen times and I definitely cried a few times too! If I could fall in love with a book, this would definitely be the one!! I can’t wait for you all to read it when it’s released next week and stay tuned for my special review on Friday 29th. 5+ stars it’s so bloody good I had to add the + on – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5. Loving Cara (Love Under The Big Sky #1) by Kristen Proby

As you can see from my reading list this week, my love for Kristen Proby had me coming back for more! Loving Cara is the story of small town teacher Cara and ranch hand Josh. Josh’s twin brother Zach is away with the army when his soon-to-be-ex-wife comes to the ranch to dump their teenage son Seth who she no longer wants. Seth is difficult and moody so Cara is hired to tutor him over the summer. Having gone to school together Cara and Josh waste no time getting to know one another again. After a series of events Cara and Josh find themselves stuck together and growing closer by the day, but is it really going to be that easy? A really sweet enjoyable read, perfect for the summer holidays but not particularly fast paced nor heart racing so 4 ½ stars +

So those were the books on my kindle this week – all of them are great reads and I’d definitely recommend you go and check them out! Stay tuned for the end of the week where I’ll tell you what I’ve been reading this week!

Have you read any of these? Or do you want to? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Clouds That Were by Addison Footit

This week is the official blog tour for Clouds That Were by Addison Footit and she kindly provided me with a free copy of it so I could be a part of it! First things first, here’s the blurb….

Clouds That Were by Addison Footit

Have you ever had a nightmare only to awake and find your life is worse than a nightmare?

A child conceived by mistake, born because there was no other option.

Your life is hell. You can’t succeed, you can’t be happy, you can’t even be sad. You can’t be anything.

I never thought I would make it to my eighteenth birthday, I figured I’d be dead by then. I just wanted to make my mother happy, and I always knew the only way to succeed at that was by ceasing to exist.

And then I met Chase. He saved me. From her, from myself, and in the end, from death.

My life was so dark and cloudy for so long, I never thought I would see the sun. But with Chase, they were merely clouds that were.

First off, for those of you hoping for a happy bit of light reading then this isn’t going to be the book for you. It’s a deep, heart-wrenching and dark read – a story of psychological abuse and depression that’s really quite thought provoking.

Tenley has spent her life completely alone with only her psychotic mother for company. Constantly told she was never wanted, that her mother wished she was aborted but was only kept to keep the control that her mother craved, life was already bad enough. But never being allowed out, to have friends, boyfriends or even to finish her homework in the house because her mother doesn’t want her to have anything, or achieve anything, that she never could supposedly because of Tenley, her life is nothing short of miserable.

Used to living in the shadows, of being completely invisible, Tenley isn’t prepared for when the new boy Chase takes notice of her and completely turns her life upside down. In a whirlwind romance Tenley finally lets someone in and allows herself to dream about a life so very different from her one so far – one full of love, hope, dreams and peace…one where she finally feels like she’s wanted and loved. But is Chase’s love and support enough to pull Tenley out of a life of depression and hurt?

This story is not like your average teenage romance novel – it’s so deeply touching and utterly heart-wrenching. The life that Tenley has lead is just so horrific it brings you to tears and some of her internal monologues have you sobbing. Her struggle and her emotions leap off the page and her relationship with Chase is nothing short of beautiful. He’s not the dominant alpha male we’ve come to expect in our romance novels nowadays – he’s sweet, caring and determined to rescue Tenley and fill her life with the love she deserves…in other words he’s truly wonderful.

There are only a couple of ‘negative’ comments I can make and to be honest they’re not really negative. When I say that Tenley and Chase have a whirlwind romance I really do mean a whirlwind – they basically pronounce their love for one another after a few days which some may say is unrealistic but sometimes that’s all it takes, and after a completely loveless life you can understand why Tenley fell as hard as she did…so I’m going to let that one go ;). Secondly the ending…what a cliffhanger!!! At first I didn’t think there was a sequel and was utterly enraged until I turned the page and discovered there was more! There are so many questions left unanswered and it’s almost like the story is just cut short. But I guess that’s just going to encourage us back for more!

With emotions that leap off the page, that make you feel Tenley’s hurt, anger and despair deep in your soul this book is nothing short of beautiful, touching and heart-breaking. So exquisitely written with main character’s you can’t help but adore, this is a story which will shatter you completely and yet fill you with hope that even in the darkest of hours, there’s always a glimmer of hope.

Dying for more? Well Addison sent me this excerpt just for you…..

“This weekend is going to be harder than most. It’s homecoming weekend. Since I’m only a freshman, it’s not like it’s a huge deal; but still, everyone else is going, and it’s difficult, to say the least, for me to have to be home for no reason. Well, the actual reason is that my mother didn’t get to go anywhere when she was my age because she was pregnant, so since I am the reason she couldn’t go, she doesn’t let me go either.

However if you ask my mother why, the reason would be that I lied. I didn’t lie, but she thinks I did because she never can remember the way things really happen, so she kind of just, I don’t know, makes it up I guess. The truth is, though, that it wouldn’t matter. I can’t do anything right in her eyes, so by now I just live my life under the assumption that even if I haven’t done anything wrong yet, I will. So I don’t plan things.

That’s the worst part. I wouldn’t go to homecoming anyway. I don’t have any friends, and certainly not a boyfriend, all thanks to her. So why would I go? It would be nice if the choice could be mine though.

It’s difficult for me to understand the way the girls all carry on about dresses and shoes and who is doing their hair. I can’t even imagine a world where those would be the most important things on my mind. Instead, I think about what kind of mood my mother will be in when I get home. How many extra chores am I going to have to do this weekend because of some imaginary thing I did wrong? And most often my thoughts are consumed with simply surviving another day. I have never thought about shoes for more than the time it takes me to put them on in the morning, and even then, I have a hundred other more important things on my mind.

It takes everything I have, every day, just to make it through. I keep to myself, try to stay off of the radar. I used to try to fit in, be as normal as possible, but it was just pointless. If I got close to someone, my mother just looked at that as something else she could take away from me to make me miserable.”

Hello I am Addison! I grew up in the great state of Wisconsin and am a Wisconsin girl through and through, although seriously, it’s not a bubbler, it’s a water fountain. Anyway, I fought being a writer for 33 years before finally giving it to it, and now I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am a wife and a mother to three kiddos! When I am not watching them play soccer, or baseball, or basketball, I enjoy photography, reading (of course) and I am learning to love landscaping.
